Late 50's and EXP questions/opinionsFollow

EXP'ing in the late 50's just stinks. It takes forever to get any sort of movement on the exp bar. Soloing (with a Pally) is a slow, painful process. An hour of work will garner about 5% exp without any quest dings. Not exactly conducive for people who can't spend hours a day playing.

After a good weekend of EQ2, I have some thoughts and questions on the matter for anyone interested....

I group with a Level 70 Wizzy who mentors down to my level (58).

1.) Fastest EXP with that group/level combo is the third level of Clefts of Rujark in Sinking Sands. Triple up herioc Orcs that are level 53 & 54. Pally wards and draws aggro. Wizzy nukes and roots adds. Rince and Repeat. Unfortunately, we didn't try this zone until about an hour before I had to leave. Still made about 30% exp in an hour which is HUGE!

2.) Slowest EXP was Tenebrous Tangle. The few quests we did helped but the Mobs were too strong for our combo to make EXP'ing worth while.

3.) Seemed to us that green and blue "triple ups" were the best exp. Not sure if that was from the recent Update that increased the exp of green mobs.... We couldn't handle yellow or orange mobs so we can't say so for sure.

4.) Poets Palace was a cool place for loot but the exp was slow there, also...

Can anyone add to this thread ?

Quest.

-There are more quests in Maj'dul, PoF and SS than you can shake a stick at.

-Basket Quests in TT. Soloable (and repeatable) around lvl 54 (for my ranger at least). Managed to get 2 levels and close to 2 plat off them.

-Lore and Legend Quests. They scale to your level all the way to lvl 45/55. Do them, you can buy the droppable parts at broker (saves time) and they give large xp bonus.

- Have LFG flag on while questing. Clefts, Giants in PoF or even in the late 50's doing the breeding grounds in TT all great group xp.

Personally I had a hard time leveling in the 50-55 range, I had a couple guildies run me through quests or grind with me. Once I got 55+ I did those basket quests to 57, then it was breeding ground groups which were regular and great xp. From breeding grounds it was SoS which is always happening and takes you to 64/65. Then there was a dip around 65-67 where I soloed quests in Barren Sky and Bonemire. Once I was 67+ I started getting into PoA, HoF, Hive groups and the xp flowed pretty smoothly until 69.

I agree with Bodhi here - the basket quests for the yard trash in TT are the way to go early on (late 50s).

Also, while you're there, don't forget to jump down the waterfall and grab the 3 quests from the surgeon. Two of them are for ground spawns right where all the basket quest mobs hang out. (You can also get the 3 weapon quests from the mender and the 3 gathering quests from the archiologist but you won't do them right away.)

When you feel comfortable with them you can start working the pairs of sentrys near the lower tree house and just up the hill. These will get you prepped for the sentry writs from 60-65. This set of writs will let you grind between lvl 60 & 65, working 4 writs at a time on the same mob. In each cycle you will kill 20 mobs and get credit for 65!

Regarding the amount of XP from mobs, The green/blue (group) heroics will always give more xp than solo yellow mobs when you are small grouped. Orange, (and red) mobs are almost impossible to hit and land spells on with any regularity so they are pretty much out of the equation.

When you solo, your best bet is a yellow mob, when you're grouped (even in a duo) switch to group mobs of any color.

Being mentored will give you a bonus but the total XP for the mob is still split between you so you'll want to stay clear of solo mobs when you can.

Duo in PoF, that zone is great for xp. There's a chain of quests there with the monks and also with the mercenaries at the entrance. Those should keep you well occupied and give great xp.

There are a couple of Lore and Legend quests you can complete there too: Djinn, Naga and Cyclops for instance. Djinn being the easiest as you can find solo mobs near the giant's field, the completely other side of the zone, bottom left on a spire. Naga are tough heroics, lvl 58-59, so I'm not sure if you'll be able to take them as adds are frequent. Done those at 63 myself, but that was with feign death.

Tenebrous Tangle has the basket quests, several lore and legend quests too (two: Drakota and Droag I believe, definitely find the Droag one as that is the easiest to complete, I've killed almost as many Droags as Gnolls I believe), not as many good quests to be found there imo. Not for solo or duoing.

IMHO the fastest experience from just killing stuff comes from chain pulling green or low blue ^^^ MoB's in a group. It works for small group or solo if you can manage it.

Morning,

Wife had a late meeting to attend so I got to head to TT and do the basket quests mentioned above. Wow!! Made about 32% exp in about an 1-1/2 hours plus about 50 or 60 gold. Dinged level 59! It was a great night but stayed up too late and now I am paying for it.

A question regarding the writs at level 60... I assume these are similiar to the writs given in SS where you can basically solo the orbs, cubes, and mummies. All are located in the same spot and you can polish off 4 writs in quick order.

Anyone know the names of the quests from the writ givers?

Don't have the names but I can give you the locations.

The mage is in the "red" tower. From thew entry point, go forward then right then left and he's the first guy on your right.

The soldier is standing on the castle steps, about halfway up in a niche on the left (as you face the top of the stairs).

The priest is past the bottom of the stairs on the left as you enter the temple grounds.

The scout is at the base of the tree to the right of the elevator.

The writs are all for sentry mobs. Three of them are for 15 mobs and the forth is for 20 mobs. I could usually solo the 4 writs in a total of 1 hour (with my warden) including the run for a set of writs; so it was kill the 20 mobs then CoQ out (I was bound in SQ, standing right in front of the mage), zone to NQ and run to the castle, run to the temple, zone to EG and run to the scout, zone to WW and run to the bell, zone to Ant and run to the griff tower, fly to Oracle tower, run to the spires, up to TT and start all over again!

Have fun!

Indeed, I dp two runs an hour now. With the Call of Ro alongside CoQ, running time was reduced, but the very frequent zoning does take its toll on the computer. Still, the 20 sentries are extremely easy to get and you can do these four up to lvl 65, a very good period to be doing writs! These are much better than doing heritage quests.
