Problem with LagFollow

#1 Sep 23 2006 at 9:36 AM Rating: Decent
I haven't played Everquest II in a couple of months. I started playing again yesterday and I've noticed the lag is horrible. I never had a problem with lag before. I have 2.4GHz processor and 1024 RAM. I usually have the game set at Balanced performance and it has always run smoothly.

I've run McAfee scans, ewido, adaware and spybot, but found nothing thats made any difference. I lowered the graphic settings just in case my memory was faulty(but even way back when I only had 512 RAM it wasn't constantly laggy on the IoR). It's even laggy in the trade skill areas with no one else inside. Even the character select screen is laggy. I haven't noticed my overall internet speed being any slower when surfing. Is there some computer setting I may have altered in the months between playing that would cause lag?

I'd hate to cancel my subscription, but this is unbearable.

Any help would be appreciated.

What I would reccomend is defrag your computer, clean-up the disk, delete some unwanted files and possibly run adaware again. Have you also checked your router, if you have one? Routers can be the source of many lag issues and you can bypass it. If you have a d-link enter 198.162.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 (cannot remember which one) and from there allow the program to access the internet freely without interference from the router.

I'm not very computer savvy. D-link? Where would I enter in those numbers if I did have a d-link(whatever that is)?

a D-Link is a type of router, to find your settings you would ype in the # (aka and IP address) into your internet browser. So where you type the webpages is where you would type the IP address, however this varies from router to router. If you do not know it look it up on google or in your manual.

Hmm? I never had a manual. When I have Charter High Speed Internet and a guy showed up and hooked everything up. I assume the black box with all the lights flashing on it is a router. The coax cable runs into it and a phone cord runs out of it and into the computer.

Do you think a spliter would have any effect? My Cable and Internet run on the same line.

No, that's your cable modem. You may not have a router. I didn't until I got Vonage for my phone.

(just clearing that up, I have no suggestions for the lag, sorry. Smiley: frown )

I tried updating my drivers for the graphics card, but afterwards EQ wouldn't even start up.

Anyone know where I can get a specific update for 128 ATI RADEON 9500 PRO/9700? The link on SOE's site just links to a generic Catalyst bundle that's supposed to support a bunch of different cards, but instead messed everything up. I had to do a roll back.

Try this site:

Edit: generic bundle but give it a shot.

Turn off your cable modem (or unplug it if there's no switch) wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on so it forces a redial. I have Charter Cable Internet too, and I do this whenever I have a slow connection, more often than not it works.

No, before you start. It also wouldn't hurt to reboot your computer after you reboot the modem.
