All right.. ive been looking through the forums for a while to get a good feel for the game before i start ^^ i am considering quitting ffxi (71war) and im trying out eq2 soon.
I found alot of answers i was looking for but am still missing a few.
1. could someone please give a job description for every job.. i seem like i looked forever and am still confused on the differences between some jobs (dont ask which ill just say all of em). Doesnt have to be long one sentence answers.
2. is there still a zone for unrest!? that zone was the best in eq1 <3 pumpkin zombies.
3. do different jobs play different roles in exping? for example eq1 enchanter was crowd control. or in ffxi thf is the hate control melee.
4. do u still get deities?
5. is there a /whisper or /tell feature.
6. is there still guards that aggro to certain races and such? im assuming its freeport vs quenos and nowhere else.
7. can u still train? im still fuming at SE about removing it from ffxi.
8. is there a claim system? for example ffxi
9. is there alot of competition for certain mobs? im sick of the ffxi bs
10. is there still the low lvl (1-10)quested armor for each job/race combination? halfling pld got turned into a giant yellow jelly bean which was awesome.
11. is my typing good? new computer.
12. i kno its been asked alot but what nonpvp server is good.
Thanks for your time, i'm sorry its been a while since i played everquest im excited. If i think of more ill add.

1. There are 24 Classes, best viewed here instead of listing them all. There are 4 basic types, that is Fighter, Scout, Mage, and Priest.

2. There is a similair castle-style zone called Nektolus Castle, one of the best and scariest out there.

3. Each class does it's part, some better than others. Of the Fighters, Guardians have the best defense but also the worst DPS. Of Mages, Wizards have the largest nuke, while Conjurers get a pet, and Illusionists still do crowd control.

4. The expansion coming out in November will include dieties.

5. Yes, you send a /tell to a person which is a private chat line.

6. The guards will only agro on you if you are from the opposing city. So Freeport guards will agro against a Qeynos citizen.

7. There are trains, but the mobs will only follow you for a semi-short distance, de-agro, and run back to their original spot.

8. Didn't play FFXI, so can't answer that.

9. There are some mobs that are required for some difficult quests, and usually require a group. Additionally, they will have long spawn times, anywhere from 1-4 hours. But for the casual gamer, there is always an abundance of mobs around. Most folks are happy to join up and help kill a tough mob.

10. The quested class armor starts at level 20 and gets you a whole set. However it requires killing some tough mobs. Since there are players that craft armor for all levl ranges, there is always some good stuff to buy from the Broker. SPeaking of economy, you'll find the EQ2 economy much easier to handle than FFXI. Prices are always reasonable, and cash is not that hard to get.

11. Work on complate sentences and first-letter capitalization. Other than that, it's fine.

12. The complete server listing is in my sig.

You can get a good group of MoB's running after you, but they generally won't aggro other people as they follow you or as they run back to their home spot. This was done to prevent players deliberately training MoB's on other players, and rightly so, IMHO, not to mention disrupting other players and making them run and/or zone to get away, losing their camp, etc. There used to be a way to do it but hopefully it's been squashed. As Tutan said, they stop following you after a couple hundred 'yards' so you don't have to zone to get them off your back.

Unrest might be back in EoF. Since you mention that, one of the things EQ1 has all over EQ2 is MoB's, zones and dungeons that are truly creepy. I don't find anything in EQ2 to be really scary like Griegs End or Unrest. Heck, EQ1 in general just had a much more foreboding feeling anywhere you went outside of town. I miss that. Nek Forest and Castle come close, but definitely no cigar. I can't put my finger on exactly whats missing. I think it's a combination of things: more realistic look, (IMHO) lamer music, the ambient sounds. Animal Mob's don't look mean and wild they just look like animals, most of them cuddly. We have all the pretty fae, sirens and centaurs as enemies, then Gnolls and Goblins are almost cute, and even undead don't look hideous. Then every time you fight a MoB they're joking and laughing, not telling you to prepare to die.

@tutan
Thanks very much alot of the information you posted really helps, the link to job descriptions for example.
Yeah the economy is something im running from, months of work for 7mil haub to only have it drop in price in the weeks to follow... (T.T)

@lyd
Perfect. I'm glad you posted. Unrest and the freaky parts of EQ1 was what made it so much fun! I must have trained that giant hand like a million times on corpse runs.
Also, everquest2 handled MPKing way better then ffxi. When they made mobs vanish while unclaimed I felt part of my soul slip away... Emp Crush to zone! Every three seconds..

@questions
I still am curious on answering the claim question and the mob competition. I figure id need an exffxi player to truely answer my question. Over 20hours camping Emp 0/5...
Also, is there botting? </3 botters.

Btw part of the best parts of EQ1 was the story. Does EQ2 keep up?

Being a mainly faydwer player in eq1 the new expansion has me so excited! i so want to relive Crushbone castle and unrest!
Thanks again for your replies Im going to keep up the annoying questions for a while more when i think of more!

I believe what he's looking for is whether or not EQ2 relies on the same pc vs. npc system, a.k.a. Kill-stealing.

FFXI based, only yourself and the other 17 members of your alliance may physically(or magically) harm the mob. In EQ1, iirc, mobs were unable to become 'claimed' by one group of persons. This allowed anyone to kill-steal and/or ninja loot.

Rephrasing the question,

Can you attack anything, anywhere, at anytime?

In EQ2, when you engage a mob, the encounter becomes locked and the mob turns gray to anyone outside your group or raid.(there is even a little gold lock icon that appears to any outsider who targets that mob)

Outsiders can attack the mob but since you landed the first blow and locked the encounter they will get no XP or treasure even if you leave.

If you wish, there is a group option that will allow you to lock out any interference at all so outsiders can't even do damage.

This mechanic allows for outside assistance but prohibits kill stealing and ninja looting.

Does that support different types of power leveling? For example a high lvl character just finishes kills and u get exp dump? Or if someone attacks it do you not get exp?
#8 Sep 22 2006 at 12:34 AM Rating: Good
If they do half or more of the total damage you lose the XP so no, they can't kill stuff for you. Power leveling has pretty much been done away with in this game.

Also healers can heal you from outside the group but only certain heals will land so you can't be power healed either.

More good news. ^.^
Im not a fan of power leveling.. it lets weak players get higher then they should be. =P

I still want to know if the story line is as good as EQ1 and if there are botters.
Let me know if you know! Thanks.

Botters...my God do I hate botters. Unfortunately, you will find your fair share of them in this game. However, if you report them to a GM, they are usually taken care of rather swiftly.

I cannot compare the storylines as I never played EQ to fruition, but I can say that the plot in EQ2 is very well conceived.
