Ok,

I am about to start my first char. on EQ2 and what i really want is fast, hard, not alot of hate built up attacks. I was thinking ranger just b/c the ranged attacks seem hella tight. Any thoughts? PLEASE help.

ANything that hits hard and fast will buld up a lot of agro. The key is being able to have abilities that can shed that agro for you.

Brigands have several agro-shifting abilites. SOme boost you to the top of the hate list so you are now the target. Other abilities drop you several places in the hate list and put you in stealth mode.

Ranger do have the best ranged attacks and can sometimes even drop the mob before it reaches them.

After that, they are average melee'rs.

The choice between ranger and assassin depends on whether you want to focus on ranged or melee.

If you want to do most of your damage from a distance, to drill the mob full of holes and never take a hit, ranger is your class. If you wanna step in close and watch the light go out of the mobs eyes as you drive the point of your blade home, assassin is for you.

Both of these classes can shed hate with a variety of combat arts. Each is considered a tier one DPSer, (although assassins do more dmg than rangers as a rule). Both make excellent soloers, are welcome in both small & full groups and bring something unique to any raid. Either is worth trying out... your call!
