EQ II.exe failsFollow

Hey, I am suddenly having serious issues starting my game. Ever since Wednesday morning I can't get into the game. Tuesday we had a power failure so I assumed the files got toasted. I did a thorough update and nada. I deleted EQII map and Thor UI and nada. I then deleted EQII and did a complete reinstall and still nada. I have reinstalled my graphic drivers and my mother board drivers and still nada. My next step is to reformat my hard drive and reinstall everything. That's an all day project and before I do that I want to make sure that SOE hasn't messed something else up and there is a real simple fix out there.

Anyone had any trouble? I crash right after I select a character. It doesn't matter which character or which account. I get that lovely WIndows error message informing me that my EQ client has discovered an un-recoverable error and has been forced to quit.

Help!

I have, or should I say had, the exact same problem last night after being away for a few days. I would try to log on, get to the character logon, then get a "Client crashed" error window, followed by me blinking several times in disbelief.

I ran AdAware, but I don't think that did anything.

Tried a "Full file Scan" from the EQ2 Start window, but still crashed afterwards.

Downloaded the EQ2 Installer, conveniently located in my sig, ran the full file scan, logged on, all is well.

I am glad it is conveniently located in your name. I will try that when I get home tonight. I would have thought that reinstalling the game would have done the trick though.

My husband had a similar problem. I reinstalled his DirectX, and that seemed to help it.

Not sure why though. Can DirectX files go corrupt? (I'd guess so, since just about any file can get corrupt.)

Thanks Tut, that did the trick. I added that link to my webpage.http://www.zoobecca.com/EverQuest/EQII_sites.htm

So now I won't forget it.
