I started playing Eq2 the day it came out. It was my first mmo and took me forever to level and do things, and some real-life complications arose and I wasn't able to play as much. When I came back, everyone had been hurrying to be the first person to reach the level cap and there was no one my level in any areas. I quit because I love grouping with people and all the newbie areas we're empty.

I moved on to Wow, hated it, and now I'm playing ffxi which I love. However once school starts I'm afraid I wont be able to play anymore, seeing as you need to have at least 2 hours or so to play otherwise you cant get anything acomplished.

If I do go back to EQ, I'm afraid that again theyre won't be anyone in my level-range and I'll have to solo all the way to a higher level in order to get people to play with.

it is true, that most of the player base has moved into the top tier and have reached the level cap of 70. However, there are some thigns that are positive for you:
- Next expansion (due in NOV) will not raise the level cap. This encourages maxed out players to start new toons.
- Maxed out players may tend to Mentor more for their lower level friends.
- There are still new players every day.

You will find that the lower zones are not like they used to be. But there is still a population that is vibrant and alive.

When you pick a server, consider Najena. We have such a large population, that we were not merged with another server like others were many months ago.

I have to agree, EQ II got a steady increase of players in recent times so there should be a fair amount of players of all levels now.

The new expansion (which is for November though) will encourage a whole lot of people to start with a new character, which unfortunately will create an overload of Fae characters. (I still haven't decided to start one myself actually)

The suburbs of the cities might not have that many players in them, not that many groups are required at that level anyway. Granted, not the best of excuses I guess, but Sony recently added a couple of really handy maps for those places, a sign they acknowledge this problem and perhaps are trying to work on it.

As soon as you hit the bigger low lvl zones (Antonica/Commonlands), there should be sufficient players there to group with.

Or just solo a bit if you can't find a group, that is always a viable option!

And as Tutan also stated, Najena is an older server with a large population and a couple of very good guilds!

We all see this concern a lot. In truth, it shouldn't even be a problem. You will outgrow the newbie zones very quickly. Like Zie said, Antonica and the Commonlands (considered Tier 2 zones for [recommended] levels 10-19) are quite populous. When you hit 20, things really begin to open up for you. I know 20 seems like a long way away, but it isn't. 20 is easily attainable. By that time, you will see a a rapid increase of players in the following Tier 3 zones: Stormhold, Thundering Steppes and Nek Forest.

as an observation, I went through Antonica last night on the way to a raid and the OOC channel was quite hopping with lower lvl chars LFG. I dont think there's much to worry about

Well I play on Nagafen a PvP server, and It seems to be quite full of ppl. I had to switch from qeynos to freeport because some my brother and his friends wanted to all start over on this server and be evil. I have been able to find groups fairly easy.

There were 47 people in Antonica on Nektulos 2 nights ago, around 11:00 PM.

I've done it 8 times now, but I can solo to Adventure level 20 an about 10 hours. Just do every quest you can find.

I just came back to the game myself. (also started at release and then quit). I'm playing on Blackburrow with these other knuckleheads and while the newbie areas aren't as full as they were a year and a half ago, there's still plenty of people there, both true newbies and vets that have started alts.
