I've put a stronger ban in place and did what I could so that even after banning, the front page isn't filled with old spammed threads.

It's possible I've removed the rights to the occasional poster to post on the forums, but there's not much I can do about that. It's either that or spam-o-rama.

If you find you can't post anymore, please send me a PM and I'll fix it so you can still post.

You're just lucky you pounced on this most recent rash so quickly. I was considering taking back taking back most of the nasty things I've said about you. As it stands, I reserve the right to do so in the future.

Kaolian, you keep mentioning the chinese provider hosting the spammer and redirector, but have you attempted contacting GoDaddy or any of the service providers giving service to the site being spamvertised itself (mmorpg-shop .com)? While the person spamming the affiliate link is using chinese redirectors, it is a US based site with a US based hosting provider and name registrar.

They're back! And the only thing that keeps me coming back to this forum at the moment is that if this is in fact a personal attack, then what this weasel wants is for us to stop visiting and I just cannot let him win!

If it is an attempt by a "legitimate" company to garner business, then they are totally missing the point. After what they have done here, I cannot imagine anyone in this community ever using their service for anything execept long term raw sewage storage.

Never the less, it has become one big drag!

I'm not a huge poster, honstly this is really the only forum I participate in, and it has been very...well...I'm sure you all feel the same way.
Thanks to the Admin for doing what they can to fix this problem I really do appreciate their efforts.

On a side note...if this is retailiation...perhaps some of you regulars might rethink your more personal flamming. There are lots of reasons to be flamming on some of the stupid ideas, comments, and attitudes that get posted, but this is a great example of what can happen when you take it too far. There were multiple threads that degraded into nothing more than "let's rip him a new one", and as a group, we (I joined in once or twice myself) managed alienate someone who obiously has enough skill (or knows someone who does) to shut down this portion of the web site.

Not necessarily, but I'd say this person (if it is a personal attack) has more internet skill than I do. He certainly above average on the internet skills list, IMO.


edit:This person is doing more than just running a simple little script. It took several days (no offense intended for the admin)to figure out that the posts weren't originating in China.

While SR was annoying, he was just generally wrong and wouldn't listen to reason. While he hated EQ2, and certainly didn't like us even though we were pointing out the obvious with him still posting on a froum for a game he doesn't play and hates (at a lot more tamely imo then either ffxi or wow forums would be) I don't think he would do this spam attack thing. I could be totally wrong of course, who knows how his mind worked

I do think it is much more then a normal gold-seller spam though... we've had some light gold-seller spam in the past, but this has become an outright attack. If you can ever get some evidence as to exactly who is doing this, maybe you could take some legal action if it is in the US?
