site spammersFollow

They unfortunately use an affiliate program to drive traffic. A situation where individual users are paid for people clicking their links. Because the site is US based the spam is likely from an affiliate rather than the site owners themselves. The foreign redirector points to affiliate_id#248.

I've gone ahead and contacted the abuse departments responsible for providing service to the domain itself as well as reporting the affiliate to the site owners.

The spammers themselves are operating out of china, and so far I have not been successful in contacting anyone wo speaks english

The latest spammer is operating out of 218.80.43.64, which has I believe been added to the IP ban list as well at this time, though they do keep getting new ones.

Would probably have better luck getting action taken through GoDaddy or nameprotect who provide services to the site being spammed, as opposed to the spammers themselves who are just pumping their affiliate stats.

Concur. Thuis board is becoming useless, and is useless to any new player.

It's better for new memebrs to have a limit-per-day on posts than to worry about them not being able to ask valid questions.

The choice is, let in a controled trickle, or keep letting the flood waters in, drowning us all.

The idea that one person in China has the ability to completely disrupt a message board on one of the worlds top ranked gaming sites is a bit sobering.

Try asking on some other boards possibly? I think some people on the ffxi boards speak chinese. I seem to remember reading something about some people claiming to be from china... Could hire a profesional translator. The site did get all that funding right? Maybe see if you can get Alla to use some to get some multi-lingual people on hand for international incidents like this? Smiley: lol

The spam is still coming somewhat, but now when they ban, they place posts back where they were so we can see the newer topics.

Would Babblefish work for translating? I am not sure what you want to translate but I have used this for other languages.

For example, this is using Japense translation (which may not display right on the forum and some systems even if it does) and should say "I like to spam Allakhazam and take a ton of time to set-up something the admins now undo with one mouse click. Oh and Emril may say 'BAM' when they do it"

Try calling the San Francisco Chinese consulate and inquire about free business translation services - SF has the largest Chinese population in the US. Heck wander into a chinese restaurant for lunch and ask (beg?) the staff to translate the cellphone call for you. Send allah the lunch tab, its a business deduction :P.

It's not the best, but it's not really this bad. One way translation comes out better than there and back again.
