I dont see an auto ban working, maybe a auto suspend afterso many post in a time frame. with a flag for mods to look at post quality. Then the first star could flag your account for unlimited posting.

How about this, LOCK all posts older than X. That would prevent mass necro-posting.

Limiting post counts won't work with the current spammer. He has made 5 accounts in the last 3 hours, posted 1-6 times per account and has ruined the top half of the page.

I think they should lock old posts, but leave them available for linking. That way the info is still there and can been seen, but no bumping.

THey seem to be using a script to do the actual posting, but are triggering it manually, and they are shifting their thread targets. We'll see if that slows them down. if it works, i'll do the rest of the ones they ahve been hitting. Feel free to recreat any locked threads that you think would be useful.

Change the forum HTML?

They'd have to go in and fix all their post bots?

which would take all of a few minutes for them to fix their bots, if that long.

Just wanted to let you all know that the idea of limiting the number of posts available for new accounts would be acceptable as long as the policy is clearly stated. Otherwise you're going to have lots of angry new memebers posting WTF's once they figure it out. At what point would the restrictions be removed?

However, OBD's idea about the time restriction between posts sounds like a more reasonable approach. That would also need to be clearly stated as the new memeber was creating the account, but I don't think it would be a huge inconvenience.

Well, looks like wer eat about 24 hours now without a spam. I've seen them up there twice, but I don't think they figured out what happened, and i don't want to give them any ideas, so we'll leave it at that. Next weekend will be the real test.

Thanks for all the hardwork you guys. It has been a real bummer to come here each morning and seeing this place spammed to hell with unwanted PL and Plat links. Many here have been working their asses off getting the board active and newcomers in, but that latest influx was a little too much Smiley: lol
#37 Aug 21 2006 at 11:17 PM Rating: Decent
And if you think its bad in here! How about in game the fact that plat sellers send you personal tells. These guys are just ruthless and never ending.

Well, it's been several days now. I think this is working. i have not seen them up there recently. This weekend will still be key, but I am cautiously optomistic.

Well, crap. I forgot their weekend starts earlier. stupid other side of the planet.

Ok, Let's try the scorched earth policy then. They are hitting the same threads over and over again, so it's a manually triggered script. Lets make them work for it.

Is there a way for you to check the HTML of there link. Then you can ban accounts based on what the link is. That way you can cut off people selling for a particular site. In order for them to continue to spam the main site would have to be moved.

http://amour001.dns.la/ is just a DNS redirector to mmorpg-shop(.tld) which appears to already be disallowed by the boards. Now it seems to be a matter of playing whack-a-mole with the different redirectors they will now use, like above.

I find that last domain name reg info very interesting... normally you can't get em for anything (legal wise) because they are in other countries like china and all. But, even though the spammers are from China (or using proxies to make it seem that way) the main site is state-side eh? I wonder if you can't do anything legal wise now?
