I have the Trial of the Isle trial... Of this game and I've been meaning to play it for a while. Now, technical difficulties set aside, I have been looking at the job descriptions online, and have come down to two jobs I can't decide between: Coercer and Illusionist. They seem to be pretty much the same, based on their descriptions... But that doesn't include player opinions. So, what really seperates the two jobs? What are they for, do they play well? I know I can only take it to level six in the trial, but, you never know what might come of it.

Haven't played either but aside from the more obvious aethetic differences such as Illusionist is a goodguy type in Qeynos and Coercer is badguy from Fp there are some differences.

-Ill can mez on the run. Coercer can manage to mez while stunned.

-Ill is more defensive and Coer is more offensive.

-Ill has stable pet with moderate damage, Coer has a high damage pet thats charm is more likely to break.

-Ill have constant steady dps that is pretty decent. Coer has more situational dps so it can spike high or low depending on the fight.

Either chanter class is hard to play and takes some getting used to but they seem to be in demand.

Sidenote - There are so many race /classes in EQ2 that it can be overwhelming. Least thats how I felt when I picked up the game in April. I read up on each class and thought I had it picked out, I ended up hating the char around lvl 13 and rolling a number of alts and I found that Ranger a class I hadnt even considered just really jived well with me and my playstyle and thats what I ended up being for my main (until I betrayed Qeynos and became an Assassin of Freeport at lvl 60).

Hell even with my Berserker I had to fiddle around. I wanted a tank and played a Paladin to 13, a bruiser to 17 and a guardian to 12 and none were really working for me. Rolled a zerker and leveled him up and I am having an absolute blast . So experimenting and taking the time ot find the right class for you really pays off.

Hmm... Maybe if I ever get the Trial to work I'll just try both. They both sound pretty fun... They are a far cry from all the jobs in FFXI.

You can also try the EQ2 Installer, conveniently located in my sig.

I have it all installed and updated, and I get to that part where the button finally says 'PLAY' so, I click it. The little box appears and tells me it's launching, something full screen appears and my cursor becomes all cool, and then my screen tells me there's no signal, then EQ2 just closes. Specs: Windows XP Home, NVidea Geforce 64 MB, Audigy Soundblaster Sound card thing, Intel Pentium 4 Processor (If that helps...), 43.4 GB free on my hard drive... Did I forget anything?

Sounds like its the firewall. Make sure it has ok'd access to the internet.

If that doesnt help make sure your drivers are updated

Ok, well, my drivers are updated, and I added it to my firewall's list of exceptions, nothing, I turned the firewall off, nothing... I just don't know... Is there a certain screen resolution it needs? I'm running it at 800x600 right now... I even turned off Norton, still nothing... I'm stumped.

Sounds like a vid card problem? I'm no expert though, have you checked to see if that vid card supports the game?

(edited to add: sorry, apparently 64 mb is sufficient, but it is possible perhaps that there is a function needed that your vid card does not support?)

It said it did on the little FAQ thing, and it also runs FFXI well.

FF XI is very easy compared to EQ II, that one is truly a resource hogger. I haven't a clue otherwise I'm afraid []

Hmm... Well I've got it posted in the tech help forum, so hopefully someone there will know.

is that as in, the monitor itself is giving you the error that there's no video signal?
Sounds like it's asking your video card to do something and it doesn't quite know how to handle it, which would lend itself to a need to update your video driver, directx, or the resolution is simply cranked too high. The first thing that loads is a little intro movie, so it could also be an issue with a codec.

How much RAM do you have? The game CAN run with 512, but it will be extremely choppy on the lowest setting. 1MB is good, 2MB is better.

64MB on the video card will be advertised as "just enough", but it will barely keep itself above water.

What wattage is the power supply? Weak PS's will not support the extreme requirements placed on the system, especially if you have added components that place an additional burden, and typically gives you a blank screen. 400W PS should be sufficient.

There are 3 critical specs in this game. You left out two of them and the one you did supply is pitifully underpowered for this game.

Your video card is 64MB and that is bare bones minimum to run the game at the very lowest setting with all the bells and whistles turned off. Recommended video card to play this game and make everything look pretty is 128 or 256 MB card and many players have gone to 512MB cards for smooth detailed play.

You listed your CPU as P4 but did not list the speed. Miminum requirement is around 2GHZ with a 3GHZ + cpu being recommended.

You did not list the amount of system ram but 1GB is about the least you can get away with and 2GB is recommended. As with vid cards, many players are exceeding this and playing with 3 or 4MB of system ram.

I don't know anything about FFXI but EQ2 is considered the most graphically demanding game available today.

Looks to me like you will need a major upgrade in order to play.
