A repost of a post i made on the EQ forum

A dialog I had with SOE customer support, worth sharing if any of the other old timers decide to try and come back

Customer (XXXXXXXX) -
I have 2 accounts with SOE

Account1 EQ+ expansions thru GOD/EQ2
Account2 for SWG/JTL

I am intereseted in moving the CD + Expansion codes for Account2 to Account1, I am NOT interested in saving any of the characters or game data, I want to reactivate all the accounts under the StationPass but I will not do so if i have to repurchase the Install & Expansion for SWG. I had contacted On-Line help to get the passwords on both accounts reset. Again I am NOT interested in saving the characters or items from the Account2 account, i simply want to use that install media without purchasing the same game again. I do have the physical media and the cd key on the jewelcase. I can be contacted at xxxxxx@xxxxx.xxx

Response (TSR XXXX.) -
Hello XXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting Sony Online Entertainment. Once an account key is registered, it is forever registered to the registered station name. Unfortunately we cannot move or consolidate station names, registered keys, game subscriptions, or any character information. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.

Customer (XXXXXXX)

Can these account keys be deactivated and new ones issued? I'm sure you can understand that I do not wish to re-purchase a game I already own, at the time I subscribed there was NO ADVANTAGE to putting the game on the same account. It seems to be an odd customer service policy at a time when your subscription base is falling, that you would not attempt to assist a customer who wants to return to your games and pay the monthly fees. Since your companies completely control the CD-Keys (as evidenced from your ability to ban accounts) this does not seem like an unreasonable request. If it is not in your level of responsibility to authorize such an action, please escalate to your supervisors or indeed to their supervisors, as I must admit this level of support would not only guarantee that I would not return to EQ/EQ2/SWG but it would also discourage me from purchasing future releases that are in the SOE family.

Response (TSR XXXXXX) - Note: Same Rep replied there was no escalation
Hello XXXXX,

We apologize but Once an account key is consumed, it is forever consumed on that station name. In order to set up another account, you will have to purchase another new and unused copy of the game software.
Please note that Sony Online Entertainment does not sell account keys. You will have to purchase a new copy of the game in order to obtain a new account key.
Unfortunately we cannot move or consolidate station names, registered keys, game subscriptions, or any character information. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.
Thank you for contacting Sony Online Entertainment.

And I guess that answers my question, will sony help, do they want loyal players or are they interested in as much money as possible even to the point of making me buy the same game twice

Customer (XXXXXXX)
Understood, instead of returning to your games and paying you a monthly fee of 25.00 to play the games, which would have cost you nothing but a moderate attempt to assist someone who honestly would have been impressed with your efforts, your lack of any attempt to reach out to an individual past the ability to milk an additional $40 to get me to repurchase your game, instead you have assured that I will make sure that my feelings about your company and their level of "customer service" will be passed to anyone who I converse about gaming with and will be posted to any of the various mmo communities that I am a part of, please by all means consider this matter closed....there is no better way to market your products than by word of mouth of your customers, good or bad

If that's the case then there is no arguement. It is not "the man keeping the brother down." It's the way their system is set up, and they have no reason to change it.

I was surprised, as I thought that key codes were purchasable somehow (legally). I guess not.

When you are dealing with customer service no matter what the service is, or even if you deal with a clerk in a store or a waitress in a restaurant or whatever, the last thing you want to do is to get the person you're dealing with mad at you. While SOE's customer service ppl's job is to mainly press automated response buttons, there is still a human being at the other end. I've been assistant manager in a video store for 3 years before I moved, and I can honestly say the more hostile you are, the less service you will receive. Unless you are dealing with a fragile heart who is not fit for the job, you won't get what you want by being mean. That is rule number one.

HOWEVER, that being said, the OP is in his own right to be pissed. It is entirely not his fault if SOE's system does not permit a quality service. He should not in any means have to buy another copy of a game he already owns. That is a cheap alternative for SOE's incapacity to deliver a decent service. It seems to me SOE's customer service and general policies are lacking in some ways, at least much more than what I've seen in my 2 years dealing with Square/Playonline. Not nearly as many obscure stories regarding duplicated accounts, overcharged bills, not being able to cancel accounts etc. as I am seeing with SOE. Or maybe I just notice more...
