Seems like every time I come here some weasel plat seller has posted his filth in every single thread on the page. Enough is enough... crawl back into the hole you crawled out of and die already!

Time for an IP ban I say.

/agree

I thought it was bad enough when I got tells from plat sellers, now people see ads for plat when they are not even in the game.

Whats next?

Chances are all plat sellers ARE actually IP banned (don't know for sure though) HOWEVER, IP banning is basically worthless unless you ban a whole range of them, which will make it so legit users can't come to this site. For example, you could IP ban me, and I would be back in less then a minute, 2 tops. Proxies and Dynamic IPs are killers of IP bans, and you got to immagine if "average joe net user" knows about em, so do gold sellers. We are talking about who know how to write (or know people who probably) write bots, network many PCs together so someone can run a whole party of people, run (probably) THOUSANDS of various accounts, write forum spamming bots/scripts... do they really not know about proxies and dynamic IP addresses?

How would YOU feel if it turned out the gold sellers were posting from your city, and in order to ban them, the whole city had to be banned? I bet you'd be pretty pissed, I know I would be. So would the (again probably) hundreds, if not thousands who come here from your/my city.

Sorry if it seems like i'm picking on you, its just IP bans are really so in-effective on forums and such. Now, banning MAC addresses, THAT is effective. BUT, I HIGHLY doubt alla collects THOSE (and I don't even think it is possible/legal to collect them, since each NIC has a unique one it is EASY to track) so IP bans really mean nothing.

They IP banned the entirety of Russia before. As of right now the current tactic is to just block certain words (which as why if you see link its 'cantlinkthis.com'). The best thing to do is just put up a reply on the admin forum and they will remove.

I know there is little they can do to stop them, it is just annoying how much they do these posts. In fact I doubt it is a plat seller, more like someone trying to be annoying. A plat seller would realize how fast bumping 50+ threads will get him banned, and figure out that his links are broke. It isnt worth their time to do what this idiot is doing.

That was one thing I was thinking with an IP ban, if they are dumb enough to do what they are then they may be dumb enough that they wouldnt figure out how to change their IP address.

This is ridiculous. Much worse than we've had before - 2 1/2 pages of this crap? Don't these idiots now their garbage is going to be deleted before anyone sees it?

There has to be a way to stop it, it's ruining the board. I would accept a limit on number of posts to the same board in a given time if it means eliminating these morons.

Bush is behind this. I know it.

Que SR in 3...2...1...

And yes, DSD, you are 100% correct. Also, a note to all those new players out there:

Forgive us if we have not answered your questions. Shortly after they are posted, they have already fallen to the second page. Thank the assclown sellers for that.

Question? Mostlty on topic...I have been "/report xxxxx plat selling" any tells that I receive. Is this the most appropriate course of action in response to these jerks?

I haven't received any SOE feed back, so I don't know if my actions are having the desired effect (namely getting these jerks yanked).

Any thoughts?

What about doing some sort of flood control on the board? I guess that won't prevent the 100+ overnight spams, but it might stop burst posting tools or something.

SOE has requested a 2 prong response to these guys /report [name] is the first step but they would like us to also file a CS ticket when it happens

To do this, go to your EQ2 button and choose help.
Next, pick the tab that lets you search the help database and type in plat seller or something like that.

When the search is complete a button at the bottom of the window will un-gray that you can click to file a new CS ticket.

Once you start a ticket you can choose from the drop down menus to point the ticket at "in-game spam" and "tell" or "in-game mail"

And finally, there is a comments box where you can list the name of the character who sent the tell or mail.

Average GM response on these is under a half hour! I have filed about a dozen and never heard from the same plat selling bastage twice!

The level 60_70 chat channel is pretty alert to the spammers. Someone will report, "Spammer! [name here], add to ignore!"

Which is followed by others quickly typing /ignore [spammer name]. I've been hit only twice since all this began.

OBD

Thanks for the tip. It kinda sucks to have to spend time reporting these guys, but if it maintains a stable health economy, I'll take the 2 minutes from gaming to nail them.

I tend to do the /report but then also do /petition, which I believe gains you the same thing as OBD is talking about on his two pronged attack
