Go to any NPC labeled "broker" There is one in every crafting instance and usually major city zones. In city zones, ask a guard for "Broker" he will tell you where to go with a glowy trail.

Double click the broker, To buy, open the buy tab and start searching. To Sell, open the "Sell" tab, place a container in one of the slots, then put the items you want to sell in the container. Then you can price them as you wish. You can use any container, a bag, strongbox or sales containers (Salesman's Crate, Weapon Rack, Armor Rack, Potion Container, etc.). If you own a home (even an Inn Room) you can place sales containers in your room, where players can visit you, buy directly from the container and avoid the 20% broker fee.

The "Good and Bad brokers" you mention probably refer to Qeynos and Freeport markets. If you're in Qeynos the regular brokers only show items Qeynosian players are selling. You have to go to the Freeport fence to buy items from freeport players, with a 40% markup, unless you can manage to sneak into their city and house. (I think that's possible, never tried it.)

"The Fence" is the broker that sells items from Freeport and Qeynos players. The Fence is in Qeynos Harbor, underneath the statue of Queen Antonica. Jump in the watery canal near the statue and swim underwater to a hole in the wall. Swim through and up into a secret room where The Fence will greet you.

Courts in Maj Dul (requires Desert of Flames expansion pack) have both brokers in teh same room, but also have a heavy markup.

YOu can also gain access to both markets near the dock in the new adventure pack, (Fallen Dynasty). The Qeynos and Freeport brokers stand side by side in two of the tents that face away from the bay, both have a 40% markup so it's strictly a convenience thing.

The Broker is so other players can buy your items. Whe you go to the broker and buy things, you are purchasing them from other players.

When someone buys your item, you get a alert in your chat box. Example: "Soandso bought Smite (Adept I) for 5 gold."

If your items are not disappearing from your broker inventory and your bank account is not growing, that means that other players are not buying your wares.

When someone buys something from your broker container, it will dissappear immediately from your box. It shows up immediately in the buyer's inventory, so no mailbox visit is required. In order to get your money just go back to a broker, open up to the Sell tab and click on your box(es), then click the "Receive Coin" (?) button.

The "Sales Log" tab shows everything you've sold since the last time you used the broker.

There seems to be some lag between when someone buys something and when it shows up in your log, at least for me. I've had stuff that was sold when I was online not show until the following day.
