New player...quick questionFollow

#1 Aug 03 2006 at 12:02 AM Rating: Decent
Hey guys I'm brand new to the game having just bought it today. I am a EQ1 vet and played WoW for a bit until I couldn't stand the other players in it. I was just curious what level could you leave the island where you first start. I have the last quest to do on there. Is it worth it or should I just go to Freeport? Also, what is the best way in obtaining new weapons? Thanks a lot for the help.

You can leave the island any time you like really. Once you get to the mainland, there will be several newbie gardens you can hunt in that will take you to lvl 10 or so at which point you will move to tier 2 - Antonica/Commonlands.

As far as weapon and gear upgrades go, once you get off the island, you will find a ton of quests in and around your new home. These will help you aquire weapons and equipment appropriate for your level.

In addition, once you have some spare coin, you can purchase just about anything you can imagine from other players through the broker system.

Quest Isle can get you to 7 in about 30 minutes if you know exactly what you're doing (probobly 3rd time through) where as if you take the boat home it'd take you closer to an hour (again knowing exactly what you're doing.)

It's just got some cool quests that will fill out your armor and give you a weapon upgrade. It's also got alot of information for really new players as well as hailing Vets from older games.

I suggest you use it to, at the least, to get to level 6 and finish up the main quest for your armor/weapons. It'll also give you a chance to really get started on tradeskilling (if you want to try that) because its litterally unchallenged nodes out the ying-yang.

Don't try to overstay your welcome, though. You'll find a pretty nasty cap on your tradeskilling (as you can only use 2nd and 3rd Volume Artisian) as well as a drastic thinning of good exp mobs.

As for weapons the best way to obtain them just fighting the right monsters in the right zones. You can also check the broker for some good deals that other people have found, but the Antonica/Commonlands have some great level 10 gear. Just don't buy from the Vendor except as a last resort.

Note: they removed most of the newbie quests in the villiages that came with the original release. I'd say something like 90%. They seem to have left only the ones that you fulfill in the outlying areas like Peat Bog, Oakmyst or Sunken City.

They've been replaced with the racial mentor quests and new quest lines in the outlying areas. They give much better gear than the old quests, but it's harder for a newbie to earn coin without all those simple quests.
