I first got EQ2 about a week after it came out after about a month of playing it, there were many flaws that caoused me to stop and go back to FFXI

class selection, for example if you thought you wanted to be a shadowknight you had to lvl 20 first, and if it turned out you dint like the class you had to start over from the start

shared death penilty. sounds great in thery, too bad every moron used this as an excuses to jump of the highest ledgethey could find any chance they had -I was in perpetual exp debt for over 5 lvls on my cleric from things byond my controll

corps finding, I had one char compleatly screwed from having 5 corpses in an area with no map and lots of aggroing mobs

no off line selling --no im not gona let EQ2 run 24/7 on my computer

extreamly poor performance I had to make the game look worse then eq1 to get more then 5 fps out of it

-----

So when I done everything i wanted to do in FFXI, and starting to get bored with it, I gave EQ2 another shot, and wow was I surprised that every major complaint about the game was fixed. I could try out every class till I found one I liked, death dint mean masive exp debt and a run thrue aggroing mobs to get your corpse , din't have to do a silly quest to get access to the main city. could sell things offline. performance is a lot bettter on the same system could even turn a few of the advanced things on to make it look better then wow or ffxi, I get a few glitchs tho ware armor disapeares

there are still a few bugs that I remember that are still there namly the tracking/waypoint systems yellow trail going in the wrong direction or wrong spot, but I can live with that

EQ2 maybe the game that breaks me from my FFXI adiction, I just hope I'm not starting too late in the game

you're not starting too late in the game. There seems to be many like you, who left after trying it initially, when it was first released, only to come back recently after hearing about all the changes they have done. It has changed quite a bit since launch, and IMO mostly for the better. I hope you continue to enjoy your time playing EQ2

It doesn't feel like im starting too late, but right now im a lvl 12 warden and was able to equipmyself rather well just doing quests and selling things to npcs. What I'm afraid of, and maybe its just becouse of the way things are in FFXI, is I'll get to like lvl 30 and have it be like "you don't have 1000plat to buy gear your gimp!1!11!"

I think I just played FFXI to long and sorta got used to the game revolves around money mentality

You'll find the crowd in EQ2 much more mature. There are very few that spew immature-leet-speak. If they do, they are quickly squashed or ignored.

The gear you have is "disposable", that is, eventually you will out grow it and need better gear to fight the harder mobs you are facing. Since the gear has been "attuned", you can't give it to an alt or someone else. You can, however, sell it to a merchant for some cash back.

One tried and true way to get cash for upgrades is to kill...a lot. Run through mobs, loot the drops, and sell them to the merchants. Eventually, you'll get enough cassh to begin to afford gear and spell upgrades.

Groups won't shun you because you are not optimally equipped. But if you are a level 30 fighter and have level 5 armor, the party will be miffed that you keep getting shredded. On the same lines, if your Taunt is not upgraded, your other party members will keep dying becasue you can't keep sufficient agro.

With many high level players, there are many that have started alts and have been able to equip them with the best gear. Thee is also a large population of average Joe's that are earning all their money the hard way.

Frequently check the broker for deals on upgrades, or you could always craft your own. Perhaps you could make cash selling your crafted items on the broker. Keep at it, eventually you'll be able to upgrade your gear.

I never played FFXI so this is based on hearsay, pardon me if I'm wrong or out of date.

Unless you're making no effort at all to keep your gear up to your level you won't be gimped. There's not that big a difference between the best gear for your level and the worst you would conceivably use (common drops or common crafted). You should get decent gear in many slots just questing and playing as you've seen. Common crafted to fill in holes or start you out in a new tier is dirt cheap on the broker right now, real newbies can easily afford it. There are no "must have" items (sniper rings?).

Decking yourelf out in rare crafted would require a bit of work, harvesting resources for the rares or farming for the extra money you might need, but nothing like the farming I understand goes on in FFXI.

If you want to get into raiding you'll need better gear, but by that time you should have enough money to get gear that's good enough to get you by until you get the raid drops. Raiding is like another game with it's own enemy capabilities and loot. It's like everything is set a tier or so above the rest of the game.
