Apparently might be making an appearance in EoF.

WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!

Man, I hope they keep it as close to the old PoF. I know many people hated that zone, myself included when raiding it, but it was one of the more fun ones. Dread,Fright, and Terror, I hope are still there, along with CT himself.

Hmmm I wonder if this is a precurser to the fact that the Gods will be reappering?

Since I didn't ever play EQ1, I don't know how THAT PoF was, but man that portal looks cool Smiley: lol

Because of the game's dynamics it'll never be quite the same. It could be pretty ******** though.

The re-interpretation of Temple of Cazic Thule is quite well done, and I LOVE what they've done to the Squid-Heads. If that keeps up PoF will look extrodinarily cool.

You won't have alot of the same horrors/excitement you had in the first PoF though. Obviously the 2 minute raid-wipe followed by a litterally 14 hour corpse run isn't going to be happening. Also, they will surely add some sort of Key/Entry Quest at first just because they can, and it will be a way to add more content.

On the bright side, we're hoping since it is a plane, it will be relatively unaffected by time compaired to Norrath, although not completely and they definatly have room to fiddle around with.

This really opens the question about some other new planes, as well. Because of the release of the 9 new Heralds/Prophets of the gods being released around Norath, one could definatly wonder what this implies for the EQ2 players.

I'll tell you one thing... as much fun as doing everything else in EQ1 was - NOTHING beated taking down a god here and there. =)

Plane of Fear lived up to its name. You literally groaned and started to sweat as your raid party was zoning in. In EQ1, something we wont have to deal with, you would die and end up wherever you bound yourself, naked. Youd have to run back and drag your body and loot it. These were called corpse runs. The problem with POF was that everyone would die many many times just ZONING IN due to the long range aggro of the mobs, making the corpse runs last for (in some cases literally) hours.

Then you had some really hard names, that required a lot of strategy to take down, and patience. (EQ1 pics but just for reference) Dread , Fright , and Terror were in essence, the three body guards of the god Cazic Thule. Also you had to deal with the Dracoliche a skeleton dragon, and most feared of all before the God himself, the Ire Blind Imp. All of these were raid targets in one, not very big zone. Also, before you could even think about taking on
Cazic Thule himself, absolutely everything in the zone had to be killed. Everything. Because if you missed even one little mob, when fighting CT, he would summon them to help him out. And even the smallest mob in the zone was a pain in the ***. It was geared for the lvl 50's, but even in the 60's and close to 70, the zone was tough. It was one of those rare zones where no matter how high you got, you still had to use your mind and use your mind to conquer the zone. And you needed lots and lots of friends to help you out. =)

This is actually going into the next Game Update (26). It's on test now. Sounds like a precursor to the Gods coming back in EoF.

*** The Hand of the Gods ***

- The influence of the gods grows stronger on Norrath as the prophets of Valor and Fear call upon the faithful for assistance.
- Meet Sir Bayden Cauldthorn, Knight of Valor, in the Commonlands near the entrance to the Freeport Graveyard.
- Danak Dhorentath and the minions of Fear have excavated an ancient cave in the Feerrott, near the Temple of Cazic-Thule. Even the bravest adventurer may gasp when setting eyes upon the terrors within.

<editorial>With no level cap increase, they'll need something to keep the hardcore raiders interested. A new planar progression scheme like EQ1 is the obvious, if not very inventive, route to take.

I also have to wonder about Fabled gear. To give people incentive to get it, it will need to be better than current fabled, making raid equipped players even more imbalanced outside raids than they are now. Will another re-itemization overhaul ala LU24 be required to nerf everything or will they just leave raiders on a seperate path in that sub-game with no challenge anywhere else?</editorial>

The "inflation" of gear has always and will most definatly continue to be a problem in just about MMO, but they have already put a lot of great barriers in EQ2 using what they've learned from EQ1 and some other games out there.

As a general and obvious rule, better gear + high level caps doesn't really qualify as gear inflation. When they come out with new gear that is for higher levels, you're looking at simply "better stuff for higher levels."

It really only presents itself as a problem when litterally 4 expasions come out with no level cap raise and nothing to entice players into purchacing other than better gear.

So far EQ2s been doing quite well.

50 was raised to 60 in DoF
60 was raised to 70 in KoS
The APs, while entertaining, different, and cool, really provided no substantial upgrades to gear of equivilent levels -- just some new assortment to add more flavor to the game.

Now while EoF apparently does not have a level cap increase, much of the expansion appears to revolve around the introduction of a belife system, some new guild tools/toys, a non-factioned starting city, a new player race, and new set of tiered zones apparently 0-7. They're really trying to make this an expansion that hits every level.

For the high levels, I really see most of the excitement coming from the new achievements, the possibility of the planes and godfights, and the new set items. Set items are an amazing way to draw players back into the same raid zones again and again just hoping to get that 1 last peice (be it a breastplate or a bracer) to complete their set. The pieces themselves do not really need to be that much of an upgrade to still create hysteria! =)

Breakdown of "over 20 Zones"? Say Kelethin is at least 3? 1 Starter, 2 T0 newbie zones, 1 t1-t5 outdoors 1 t1-t5 dungeons following the setup for Q/F and you have 16 zones and havn't made it past a zone on the same teir as LS/EF. Now just 1 for T6, 1 for T7 grinding, and you've got room for 3 to MAYBE 5 high end raiding zones, and thats not including the possibilty/probability of some lower-end raiding zones.

Basically I wouldn't be too worried that they're going to overdo the high end stuff on this expasion. Cosindering the Planar aspect as well as observing some of their habits from KoS, it's quite possible that some Planar-only or Planar-effective gear will present itself in this next Expac, giving gear that helps fight in the planes much better, but back down on Norrath not really all that much different from DoF/KoS gear.

also, with the new expansion coming out adding Faydwer, I know a lot of people will be putting their main chars o the shelf, even if its for a couple weeks, to go check out the new content. So while the new raiding zones will be very cool, its the new continent that is going to grab everyones attention, esp if they had played EQ1. I myself, can not wait to go back to Kelethin, see if the chessboard is still there from Butcherblock, and go fight in Crushbone. A lot of my guildies are already chatting about what classes they want their fey to be lol

They might return Kedge Keep? That was a 'fun' zone Smiley: smile

Is the new continent not accessable from Norrath? Meaning established characters cannot go visit and explore?

I would be surprised if its not accessible. Its the fact that it is a new starting city, with new newbie zones. Lots more fun to play around in, not to mention the fact its from old school EQ. Why bring your lvl 70 main to fight against Crushbone Orcs that are lvl 5, when you can start a fey alt and really enjoy it for what it was meant?

I will indeed enjoy starting a new character in the new world. I will also laugh at those that aspire to be the "First Fey to level 70". But if that's the enjoyment they get from the game, all's well.
