The Betrayal quest is HELLA long and involves running between Qeynos and Freeport at least 10 times. Also the part with the dog was a plain time sink if I ever saw one.

I am however an Assassin of Freeport!

Hurray me!

Congrats. We'll miss your sexy self over in Q-town.

Question: What happens to your status when you betray? Do you lose it all?

Weird when I did the betrayal quest on my lvl ten ( now swashie) I never left FP except when I was exiled, for the faction quest. All my faction grind, which was hella long, was done from the Common lands to EFP.

Gratz, ***!

Nice job! And again fast lol.

I've done some of the betrayal quests (for my own faction, pointless but it adds to the quest number ofcourse) and I know they aren't always that easy.

Anyway, now we're all expecting a good comparison with your new assassin. And don't end it with the news that you're going to betray back lol.

Just spent a couple plat getting skills. Lots are similar to Ranger however all range attacks have been replaced with stealth back attacks.

Also better defense and physical debuffs, better dps self buffs.

Can't wait to take him out for a spin!

When I was a ranger and in a dungeon I came out in the 2nd -4th place in dps on parser. My dps was really uneven thanks to CA timers. Sometimes I would be doing 400 dps, sometimes 150.

I took my Assassin (same level, same gear, lower combat arts) out to SoS (same dungeon). I consistently placed #1 for dps by a decent margin. Where my rangers DPS tended to fluctuate, the Assassin does steady damage each fight.

It was an immeditate noticeable improvement in DPS. Not only that but Assassins beat Rangers when it comes to AOE, DOTS and Debuffs hands down. Also once again, the issue of arrows. My ranger could go through his entire 16 slot quiver of arrows in a night. That is 16 x 99= 1584 (you could also factor in the +35 arrows every 10 minutes thanks to Salvage). If you need to buy arrows that is a lot of coin. My Assassin perhaps used 50 arrows last night tops.

Anyways glad I made the jump. If they balance Ranger out or come up with a resolution to the whole arrow thing I might betray back cause I am a goody goody at heart.

Ya the arrow issue does bring alot of questions to mind.

In EQ1 at first when EQ (endless quiver, different EQ lol) came out, everyone immediately welcomed it as the savior of the Ranger class and of the idea of an Archer in general. While this was quite true - especially along with other AAs - it devalued the high end fletching to such a great degree that on the bazaar a stack of high quality arrows would sell for weeks and be down 10-12 from what the stack started as, if you were lucky.

The same could be very much true in this game, however there is a definate need for some sort of arrow consumption reduction. As lame as it sounds, I would have preferred bows shot without any ammo type at all, as it always seems to do this (especially end game.) For one class to be required to consistently dish out coin to do their job while other classes do not is straight up lame.

There needs to be some fix. I don't know what, but something. Perhaps if they switched it to only Ranged CA's taking up arrows, or some in-between like that, but it is definatly a class imbalance for rangers.

Just a warning in advance, while I agree with you, what i'm going to say is going to sound mean.

While I agree that the ammo situation is a bit bad (i'm a brig and have 1 ranged CA that uses on average 5 ammo per use with a 30second re-use, and I pull with it lately because it is harder for me to sneak around mobs, so I can feel a little of what rangers are going through) the bolded part of your quote is probably the most argued thing ever.

Every game has classes like this, it is just the way the devs made the classes. Every class has expenses, just some are more then others.

WoW: Every class has armor/weapons/repairs, food, and new spells. Hunters have arrows and food for them and their pets. MANY casting classes have reagents from vendors they have to buy to cast certain spells. Sure they could do w/o them, but they wouldn't want to really.

Every class has expenses that they need to pay to do their job (you don't want a tank running around naked do you?) in a party, just some are higher in cost then others.

FFXI: Every class has armor/weapons, spells and food. Depending on your main/sub job you'll need other things that CAN'T be bought from vendors, like Ninja powders (well ok some can) and ammo (again some can, but only to like 20ish).

Again, we have the fact that every class has expenses they have to pay, and while some are higher (Ninja and Ranger mainly) others can be quite expensive also. Mage spells are (when I was playing) some of the most expensive in the game. Whats worse, is unlike WoW and EQ2, as you get higher in level you gain a lot more dependence on players and crafters to supply you with gear and spells and such. Can't buy much from the NPCs.

EQ2: Like in WoW, every class has armor/weapons/repairs, food, spells (and boy is the eq2 spell system a doozy for spending money in with the multiple teirs of spells). Some classes (well mainly fighters/scouts) can all use ranged weapons to pull mobs with, that costs ammo. Sure none go through as quick as rangers though.

Again, you wouldn't want a tank to go in naked with app 1 taunts would you? So again, we run into the repairs and such.

My point through all of this, every class has expenses that re-occur to do their job, be it repairs, buying new spells, food, ect. Just some cost quite a bit more then others. Sure, it sucks if you play one of those classes, but you should realize that when you signed up to be a "x" that you would be paying a bit more then other classes. At least if you read about the class some... and certainly if you stuck with playing it past, say, level 20, you should realize it is going to be more expensive.

I'm not trying to deney there is a problem with the cost (since the cost for those classes who are more expensive are substationally more expensive) but the fact remains that you should realize that. You make a choice to keep playing those higher-price classes, no one is forcing you. In all the games you could just start over. In EQ2 if you're a good/evil only class (like Ranger) then go betray and you can keep your levels. In WoW you're stuck just starting over sadly. In FFXI you could just go switch jobs and be on the same char and everything.

Like I said, I admit there is problem, I just don't like people who whine about it. Even lowering the vendor cost on ammo would help, or increasing the ranger ability that gives them. Just be glad you're not in FFXI though, where you HAVE to buy ammo and such from other players towards the mid-cap levels.

So it's been a week or so. Have to say that I am still happy with the decision. I was in SoS the other day with a group of 2 necros, 1 wizzie, Guardian and a Templar. Both of the Necros were twinks who were bragging about dps, and the same level as me. I was out dpsing them on the parse by a wide margin.

Well the one necro started going all out, not only was I still beating him but he kept grabbing aggro off the Guardian (something I didnt have to worry about thanks to transferring 22% of all my hate onto the guard + elude and surveilance). Well the twink got all in a huff and ended up leaving the group over me out dpsing him.

Good times!

glad you're enjoying your change over. We've been teasing Madi merclessly, asking when hes going to change. It looks like he started a brigand alt and has fallen in love. Also reading up on the boards concerning rangers, it doesnt look like the Devs are listening too well to the valid complaints the ranger community has. I dont think there are going to be any changes in the near future.

The devs seem to think that giving the Rangers more DPS would be a mistake and perhaps they are right. However there is a hell of a lot of stuff they could do to help rangers.

- Fix arrows. They have been promising this one for a while and not delivered.

- Increase range weapon drop rate. Right now they are hella rare at end game.

- Look at combat timers.

- Auto attack. Right now a Ranger and a Brigand both using a bows autoattack do the same DPS. That don't seem right.

I dunno even if they fixed the class I probably wouldnt go back.

I wouldn't blame him. Brigands rock so much i'd never think of becoming a swashy. I've out-DPSed necros/conj with M1 pets before (well, just the pet... I don't think I beat the combined), w/o drawing aggro. And if I did draw aggro i'd be able to shed it instantly AND go into stealth at the same time.

It's always funny that some people think they've got such leet skillz the limiations programmed into the game don't apply to them.

Or maybe they missed where necro/conjuror DPS got a nerf a couple updates ago.
