Endgame contentFollow

Tried out the trial of eq2 again and I am liking it thus far. Can someone tell me what endgame activities entail for eq2? Large groups to fight ‘god’ type mobs? What type of mobs are fought? Is everything quested? Do guilds compete for pops of certain monsters? In FFXI your performance was very heavily affected by the type of gear you wore and had attained, some of it took years to get but was worth it. Is this the same for eq2?

Also, what the hell is the population of eq2 across all servers? I hate the fact that I cant do a /sea all and see how many people are on the server at that given time.

Something else that frightens me about leveling is joining a heavy server like Oasis and doing a search of all LFG from 1-70 and only seeing 25(max) people.

The population is rather respectable for the amount of servers they have. From what I gather about the end-game (I'm not there yet, but I've got the same frame of reference as you coming from FFXI), it's kind of a mix in style from a few MMO's. There's "instances" where dungeons are unique to the group that is in them to avoid heavy contestation over end-game content...along with some open-world dungeons. You might not see as much "LFG" tags simply because the Guild system and how it's different from FFXI. You're in one group, indefinately unless you leave, so the groups that are in fact Guilds tend to work together a lot more. You'll see a lot more groups that are primarily Guild with a few pickup jobs here and there...which is where the game kind of resembles WoW in terms of social structure.

Most MMO's have a gear-dependency built into them after the first 10-20 levels. It's the same here as you'd find anywhere. However it's not like FFXI in terms of taking ages to get the things you want/need...content is more frequently available and less contested, so it removes a lot of the needless competition for things you see in FFXI.

You can get the server stats off the SoE Station website...it has an abundance of information for each server down to the nitty-gritty details about Guild rosters, individuals discoverys, so on and so forth. If you're looking for detailed numbers as far as population goes, that would be the place to get 'em. Welcome to EQII :)

Tarinax

Ascent of the Awakened and Lytheum of Abhorance

eq2census a link to tell you server populations and can break down into classes or races.

If there are any othe rqueswtions you have that these did not answer let us know and we'll try and answer them for you

Heh, just noticed you play on Caitsith. Back when I played FFXI that was my server to. As for population I just did a /who all 70 and came up with 90 results. Not bad for 1030am on a Monday.

End game you have raiding (there is a short raid video of Tarinax in my sig, actual fight is longer), crafting lvl 1-70 just like adventure so you can always craft, there are epic quests for items or abilities, you can use /mentor function and help low level friends, level up achievement, help your guild gain level, etc.

Lots of stuff to keep you busy, helps if you know people that are playing. Give the people on Najena a shout, Foundation is the guild name. Bunch of allakhazam posters.

Thanks for the replies. Probably going to go pick up a copy over my lunch hour.
I take it the census only works for people that are currently logged in? If so it looks as though 5,000 people on a server seems about right (only returns 500 and only got through letters/names a-c or so)?

thats a question I dont know tbh. I believe it is the accounts or players total. When I do a search for my server, Blackburrow, it comes back with 74069, and I checked earlier this week and it was the same.

I am happy with those numbers, I missed the 'count' option box on the top of the page. Oasis returned approx 75,000. I am used to FFXI which only had about 3-4,000 on heavy weekend nights only. Weekdays a /sea all (which returned all people online at the given time) of around 2000-2500. I had no idea EQ2 was as popular as it was.

Any recommendations for expansion packs to pick up?

Buy EQ2 + KoS expansion for 29.99

This exact copy gives you the original game and the second expansion Kingdom of Sky. Kingdom of Sky is useful because starting at lvl 20 you can start earning Achievement Levels, which you can customize your character with.

The first Expansion Desert of Flames I wouldnt worry about until lvl 45ish.

Thanks.

Also, about how many different raids are there? In FFXI I can count about 20 main gods LS's would go after. Some of these gods would take upwards of an hour or so to take down with some extreme strategy taking place. I.E. add teams and nuking team logging off/relogging in to reset hate as well as skillchain teams. Seems as though the raid setups for the "boss's" look to be straight up tanking style? In FFXI we would employ lots of kiting strategies into our god fights whereas we never let the mob stand in one place or it would literally destroy us with AOE moves.

You have 2 things to consider here, expansions and adventure packs.

Expansions are full blown enlargements of the game world and we currently have two with a third schedualed for release in November.

The basic game will take you from lvl 1 through lvl 50.
The first expansion (Desert of Flames) adds new zones and takes you from lvl 50 - lvl 60.
The second expansion (Kingdom of Sky) adds more zones and takes you from lvl 60 - lvl 70.

In addition to the new zones, spells etc, there are always new game enhancements and mechanics included in each expansion. An example of these is the achievment system included in KoS which as Bodhi mentioned allows you to customize and personalize your character even more.

Adventure packs are like mini-expansions featuring a handful of new zones & dungeons and a unique storyline that will carry you through a variety of quest lines.

There are currently 3 adventure packs available. They are;
Bloodline Chronicles (vampire theme - lvl 30 - 50)
Splitpaw Saga (Gnoll theme - lvl 20 - 50)
Fallen Dynasty (Asian theme - lvl 55 - 70)

The adventure packs are download only, cost between 5 and 10 dollars each and although they are not "required" to progress through the game, they are a lot of fun.

I agree that you should start with the retail package that includes the basic game & KoS. It will give you the most bang for your buck and the achievment system will come in handy as soon as you hit lvl 20. When you do reach lvl 20, download the splitpaw adventure pack, it's a lot of fun and since it is an instanced dungeon that scales to the average level of your group, it will last you till you hit 50.

And finally, welcome back!

Just asked a 70 in game and said KoS has at least 23 Raid targets and Adventurepack Fallen Dynasty has 3 raid instances. So there are a few with more coming out in November!

not to mention all the end game raids prior to KOS, which had the GodKing and several raid targets to get there. AND the fact that raid targets start as low as the mid 20's so yuou can raid even befor eyou get to the end game. End game always changes with each expansion, so what is end game now will not necessarily be so in November, and then again after the next expansion, usually every 6 monts or so
