Tell AdsFollow

Has anyone else been getting tells advertising the selling of gold? I saw I notice from Sony as to how to handle that when it happened but I ignored. I didn't think it would be a problem. I was wrong. Twice in one day I got tells from two different people advertising gold for sell. Now who do I report this to?

Isn't it a little brazen that they are doing this? Can't their accounts be banned? When their accounts are banned doesn't it mean that if they wasnt to start up again they have to buy the software package again? Do they make that much money selling gold that they can keep doing this? Or am I just being hopful and wishy-washy??!

Ive had it happen a couple of times and it has been posted on the official boards. I cant remember what the Admins said, but basically, just play around with them. You can report too, but dont forget to have your fun with it. =) Usually by the time you do report it, so have 75 other people and the player is banned. It seems they like to go through each guild, alphabetically. At least thats how they do it on my server

The slimeballs are apparently starting newbie toons on the Trial of the Isle to send all these tells (and mail). They don't care if it's banned, they lose nothing.

SOE are working on a fix to stamp them out, in the meantime just /report them ASAP, I guess.

One of the things I noticed in eq2 upon joining (probably helped that I was normally in later letter guilds if they do go alphabetically by guild and I was in a guild starting with "B" well technically "The B" Smiley: lol) was even though sony takes a hard stance on plat selling, I got quite a few tells offering to sell me gold. Just type /report and then maybe poke some fun at them. I did a couple times and nothing happened to me. Of course, there are a ton of people /reporting so unless your name is like Aaaaaasomething and you're in a guild called Aaaasomething (minus a couple "A"s) you're porbably about the 100th+ person to /report so it is almost useless. But it does help them gather a ton of evidence against them heh.

Well Tomec, if you are correct about your alphabetical assumption then we are alll screwed. My guild starts with a W and I was play a toon that starts with a Z. How much lower on the alphabetical food chain can you get? Maybe I should create a guild named after my namesake, Zoobecca, or a guild named Zzyloons or something. Do you think that would make me safe from the leeches?

I hadn't thought about the trial issue. The only way they could stop that is by somehow limiting only thr trial to be used only once on a system. I am nost sure how that could work or if it's even worth the bother.

I guess having fun with them is the next option. I could see it now. I have at least 15 toons at my fingertips (my son, his fiancee, and mine) that I could respond with a tell of say, The Gettysburgh Address, until they put me on ignore. Then I could just swap toons and start with another one. Oh, this could be fun. I have lots of books with lovely poems in them. And another book with famous quotes.

Now I can't wait until I get my next tell. Thanks Tomec. It's time to have fun.

PS. I could be really evil and copy passages out of the Bible. LOL

I get that they can send tells from the island but is there a mailbox there? I've never seen it.

Actually, no need. Just make a toon, go straight to Qeynos as a level 1, and start spamming.

Maybe we should put bear traps around the mailboxes...

Yes but to get off the island you would need to purchase the game - I could be wrong here but I thought the concept was using 'disposable' accounts to advertise plat for sale - these disposables would need a mailbox on the island to send mail from.

The mailbox is just an interface, I'm pretty sure you can write and send mail from the command line.

There may actually be a way to do that, but sending attachments with it i'm not so sure. I know that there are some UI mods out there that let you view bank/broker inventory, but that is ALL you can do, view them. You can't modify anything because "you aren't in a broker/bank transaction" I don't know how deep that coding runs for mailboxes though.

Maybe the toon on the trial is merely the hawker for the gold. Once you agree on a price and pay, the real person with the account meets you to deliver? If you buy then you have broken the rules and are out the cash. So the buyer won't snitch and the creeps continue to hawk their gold. Would they actually even needd to use the mailbox?

First time I ever heard of /tell ad's is in WoW shortly after it was released and it's numbers hit about 1 million. Then the spammers started spamming everybody.

Now it has hit EQ2. Doesn't surprise me really. Sad though.

The first time I got one of the in game mail ads I did a petition. Well a GM contacted me within 5 min, asked if I still had the mail in my mail box, asked that I take a screenshot of the mail opened and e-mail it the him/her so they can ban the account.
