I played EQ1 years ago, my 38 bard with whale skin drum was just zooming across the landscape. Tell me they still have it, please..
Dirges used to be able to run faster then all of the mounts, but that was back before combat balancing. Now both bards get a 34% group run speed buff, that stacks with the journeyman boots from the HQ, journey is half the fun. This gives them a 44% run speed, which is better then all but the best mounts.

Bards also have an AA option to increase in and out of combat run speed. by another 8% i think it is.
That combines with jboots, Selo's and the droag swill will give you something like 96% faster run speed.
