I was thinking about writing up a guide for brand new players to help them cope with the expansiveness of the game once you leave the isle.

Still being a fairly new player myself I will need some help from some veterans.

Anyway what are a few things you wish you had known before you started really playing the game.

For me I wish I had known about status points sooner and how you got them.

esp coming from WoW, one thing that can become a problem is holding your coin, or at least exchanging it. Unlike WoW, your coin adds weight to your char. While fighters have little problem with this since they have more str, I found my druid would slow down if I had thousands of copper on me and didnt exchsnge them for silver or gold. You can do this at the bank.

Sell stuff on the broker!!!! I can not stress this enough. One of the quickest ways to make cash in the game is to check the broker system and see if any of that "junk" is worth something to others. Those collectibles you get multiples of? You never know if someone is looking for that particular piece.

Writs, heritage quests, and items such as relics, amulets, scrying stones, and documents should be sold to the appropriate people in yoru city for SP. SP is like another kind of money. You get major discounts on certain items not to mention titles when you gain SP.

Examine everything you loot, by right clicking the item and hitting examine. Sometimes things droped start a quest, be it language or other kinds. I didnt know this for ages.

SPamming for groups and guilds is forwned upon in th egame. Most players are used to at least getting a tell prior to an invite and really appreciate it.

Your gear does not lose stats when you die. However you have ten times you can die before you're naked. Literally. Mend each night when youre done playing by finding the local mender in your city.

Stats food and drink, made by players, are a must!!! They can be cheap you just have to look. But crafted food have different stats for different kinds of edibles. This includes drinks. So always get yourself the crafted food and drink for higher stats and regen.

If I think of more Ill post some

What the heck are status points?

this is a good thread, lets load it up, like when do you get your racials skills, and at some levels i have been getting upgrades, or special monster killing skills? Could someone list what levels you get what at?

I think the Sticky covers a lot of things but should be refined aethestically. If someone would copy+paste it and clean it up and add coloured heading and possibly a table of contents that would be great.

A guide to Beginners Isle, to FreePort and Qeynos, new class descriptions, How to Modify UI etc, alls these would be great to see also.

I can work on a guide to the isles in a few... I have them down pat and do (almost) everything on them. Also, make sure you add in things like cross-server tells and such.

Edit: something like a zone progression would be nice too. Like CL leads to Nek leads to zek or EL leads to Feerrot? ect

Yeah it seems like eq2 is getting more and more new players everyday, it really is growing, ( all the new changes help)

If someone could spearhead these forums that would be great, starting here.

The wow side has a really nice, zone to level link.

You always know where to go, and where your level's quests are. That helps so much.

Also all the class info on this sight still has the idea of old classes, i think, ( i know on other sites it is like that).

2 really helpfull things, would be updated class info, and where to level/go

IMO

thanks allot :)

also at what levels do you gain special abilitys? I have a few so far (racial, and specific mob killing, ect)

really good in-game map system Smiley: lol

Anyways, good natured ribbing aside... you may want to talk about the map system and quest givers will have a blinking orange circle outline on the map and people for finished quests (or some step of a quest) will have a blinking solid orange circle.

Also, I've finished the Freeport starter island and am touching it up right now. It will probably be posted within in an hour or so as I still have to forum-code some parts and proof-read/modify some things before I even start working on the forum coding... not that there will be much really.

Edit: also, unless Lydiaele is still (at least semi-actively) posting here and will do it, I can work on re-coding the FAQ, adding some things to it including links to some of the guides/resources we are putting up here like MentalFrog class/betrayel listing and the Outpost of the Overlord guide i'm working on finishing atm.

If you are out adventuring and do no feel like going back to the city, you can always use the mailboxes to send yourself money, though it is not the ideal way. It works in a pinch, but the bank is always the safest bet. Things can become "lost" in the mail, ya know.

another thing I thought of last night. Something I wish I knew about before but only learned a few months ago was that the letter F is my favorite letter. If you direct your mouse over mobs to loot, or want to open doors, mailboxes, or hail NPCs, etc, instead of right clicking and hitting the appropriate response, just hit F. Its like hitting shift and right clicking in WoW to auo loot, but it does more

Yes, I am here. I've been updating and adding to the sticky since I posted it. I'd be happy to add whatever suggestions are brought up and work on the formatting. I'm not going to get territorial over it though, so feel free to have at it if you're so inclined.

EDIT: Tradeskills are my main passtime in game. I can write up a newbie crafting guide if it would make a good addition.

I wrote up a small tradeskill primer for my guild.

However, I'm sure you know more about the system and can elaborate on it more.

Why don't you write up a starter guide and if you have time how about a full blown advanced tradeskill guide for the site as it is lacking in that area.

Well, I really didn't follow the changes in the sticky much so ya. I'll just leave it to you as I have to work on my two little guides now for formating and such lol. Hopefully we'll be having a lot of changes here soonish in terms of guides and such, so you'll probably be kept busy adding in the links to the guides Smiley: lol

Hell, yes! Having just started the game, I am completely lost tradeskills-wise.

Please... more... more... I guess what I'm feeling after leaving the starter Isle is the sense of open exspansiveness in EQ2. I have played and still play WOW (over a year and a half), and I'm not trying to make strong comparisons since the games ARE different.

There's always this. Even though the last review or input was over a year ago, it still has many of the basic funtions that are not always apparent.
