Dear god i am hooked again...(also questions) :)Follow

It has happened, EQ2 has gotten it's filthy hands into my sexy cheeks once again! I had swore it off, and, had turn to it's mortal enemy WoW! I had not played it in over a year, and in that time I have cleared everything in WoW, except for the AQ40 boss, (his name sucks to spell). I have 7/8 TS, and everything a shaman could want (plus a guild that could get me Tier 3 loots), a great guild, and many freinds. But like a old slutty girlfriend I went back to EQ2 for 1 more spin. And OMG did she get her claws into me. I now have a little 14th level ranger, and i LOVE it. I am blowing off raids, and ignoring my shaman who i love so dearly. It has happend, i have found my missing crack pipe. :(

This is the game I wanted, a game that is very DEEP, yet I can play in chunks and still get stuff done. A game where i actually like the loot, and quest rewards, and all that sexy lore, and countless races/classes/skills, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, ooooooooooooooooooo, mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Now for a few questions, and why to heck not?

(I am a half-elf, ranger)

1. Can I upgrade my skills? I have rank 2, but how do you get rank 3, and can I go right o master skills?
2. What zones are good for soloing, and what are good for grouping? Ie. What instances are good for soloing (and can be soloed), and what are only for groups?
3. Are rangers needed in endgame? I have seen sooooooo much ranger ********* but I am just putting that off on trools, for the time being, till i get a good answer.
4. Are necro's still the sweet sweet soloer they used to be, or did some patch nerf soloing "pet" classes?

That is all I can think of now, I am sure I will have more latter as I am playing, and I run into stuffs. :)

TY, in advance anyone who answers this stuff.

I love to solo, and basically group for hard quests, or instances, so any good places for that type of playing please post. :)

Just put my lvl 40 ranger to bed for the night and although I was in a duo tonight, I often solo him.

Yes, your skills can, (and will), be upgraded a bunch more times, but don't be in a big huge rush to buy master spells just yet.

Most if not all your spell lines will upgrade to bigger better versions about every 10 lvls, so you might not want to upgrade any that are about to be replaced anyway. Combat arts, (mostly stealthed attacks and bow shots), come in "lines" and there is nothing worse then investing in a master 1 or adept 3 version and then getting an upgraded version 2 lvls later!

The ranking from low to high for all spells and combat arts is as follows:

app1 - new spell given at the beginning of a lvl
app2 - bought from npc vendors
app3 / app4 - player crafted from common harvests and sold on the broker
adept1 - mob dropped and sold by players on the broker
adept3 - player crafted from rare harvests
master1 - mob dropped in master chests and sold by players on the broker
master2 - game given as a free upgrade - choice of one spell every 10 levels (on the "6" lvl)

absolutely! We have some of the highest dps in the game and our archery is 2nd to none. There is always a place for rangers in a raid.

All zones contain a wide variety of both solo and group targets so you could solo in the same places you group, you'll just want to pick on different mobs! Your skills will grow by tier so you will want to stay in tier 1 zones, (like oakmyst forest & forest ruins), until you reach lvl 10 at which point you will move to Antonica. Ant is a HUGE zone and will keep you busy until you reach lvl 20 at which point you will move to Thundering Steppes and Nek forest. TS & Nek will be your home from 20 to 30 at which point you can try Zek & Enchanted Lands. It's EL and Zek till lvl 40 when you enter tier 5 and there the choices really open up... in tier 5 you can choose from Everfrost, Rivervale, Feerott and a few other spots.

All of these are overland zones but when you group, the real money is in dungeons. There are far too many to list but I'm sure you get the idea!

Necros and conjurers just got trimmed back in the last LU but still make very effecient solo or group toons.

Have fun and welcome to evercrack!

Wow thanks for the fast response. There is so much stuff in this game, you can really hurt your toon if you dont understand it all, and start implementing it.

As far as zones go, there are allot more than WoW, and it is a bit daunting.

Is Blackburrow still around, i heard it was, and what is a good level for that?

Also what is this splitpaw thing? i heard it was a completley solo instance, and are there any others like it?

At level 14 what dungens should I be doing, and what quest line are important?

Thanks again. :)

Blackburrow is a good place for you now actually, with a good group. Not so sure as they have revamped the zone and made it harder. But lvl 14 should be quite good for it.

Splitpaw is an instanced zone, three parts I believe; you can only access it if you have the first adventure pack though. It isn't necessary for special loot or the likes (although there will be good loot to be found there), but lots of people like this zone as it will always have mobs around your level and it can be done solo. (not every part though, some are group required)

Can't recall that many quest lines that are absolutely necessary at lvl 14, just go around and pick up every quest you can find. With a quest journal that can hold 75, there shouldn't be that many problems. Try to do the "Tie that Binds" quest, that begins near the Lighthouse in Antonica so you can bind your recall spell everywhere you want in Qeynos and the suburbs, but other than that, just go around, explore and have fun.

Between lvl 10 and lvl 20 any dungeon in Antonica will be good for you. These include Blackburrow and also Stormhold.

Splitpaw is located in T-Steppes and is accessed by purchasing the 2nd adventure pack (called "The Splitpaw Adventure"). It is indeed an instanced dungeon, and scales to the average level of your group between lvl 20 & lvl 50. It can also be soloed, (I regularly soloed the upper tunnels with my warden until she reached 50).

The loot in the upper tunnels is outstanding and the XP is very good. I usually earned about 20% of a level for a 1 hour run through the solo instance. In terms of loot, I have often gotten upwards of a dozen good chest drops out of a single solo run.

After you hit lvl 20, it really is the place to be!
