2 box questionFollow

#1 Jun 22 2006 at 8:57 AM Rating: Decent
I used to 2 box on EQ 1. My main was a Shammy and the other a Monk. Great Combo for fast lvling. I basically used the shammy to powerlevel the monk since the Shammy was much higher level.
My question is what would be the best combo for 2 box in EQ 2 and what class would be best to powerlevel another char?
Thanks.

One thing to keep in mind, is that these two games (EQ1 and EQ2) have totally different gameplay mechanics, rules, etc. Now, with that said...

Any combination with a Priest (healers class) will do well. Monks are now part of the Fighter group, so even though they do well for fighters, they don't do as well as other DPS classes. Fighters do have a good ability to Taunt, keeping the mob off the healer.

Shaman's are still good offensive healers for a group. Fury's are also good with nukes, while Wardens have many party buffs. Cleric's have the largest single-shot heals and can wear plate armor.

You might consider one of the Scout classes to increase your DPS and make fights go faster. Ranger (best ranged attacks), Assassin (best melee attacks), Swashbuckler (fast attacks), Troubador (party buffer), or Brigand (multiple attacks and debuffs). There are a few others to try.

If you are extremely dexterous, you might consider playing two pet classes, like Conjurer and Necromancer. That combination is extremely deadly and able to bring down very tough mobs.

Leveling in EQ2 is much faster than EQ1, and you'll find that you don't need to PL. In fact, PL'ing is almost non-exsistant due to the grouping rules. If a very high level character is facing mobs that are grey, and worth no exp/loot, then the rest of the party will see those mobs as grey and worth no exp/loot.

The high level can "Mentor" down to the lower level, reducing his level/skills/powers to the level of the "Mentee". The Mentee gets a 5% exp bonus, while the Mentor suffers a 95% exp penalty.

One last way to get around PL'ing, is the high level character stays outside the group, allowing the lower level to get credit for kills, as long as he does 51% of the damage. The one outside the group can cast certain spells (but not all, as some are group-only) into the fray, nukes, heals, or just melee.

This game was designed to eliminate power leveling. There is nothing like the EQ setup where a high level buff can be cast on a low level character making them extreemly overpowered and able to kill things way above their level for huge experience. There is nothing like Temp, for example. Also, buffs in this game don't make as big a difference as they do in EQ. Sure, they're noticable and help a lot, especially when you have a group full of them going, but there is no buff that makes players feel they cannot go out without it, like Temp/Virtue or KEI. Overall they're very well balanced.

Like Tutan said, 99% of buffs can only be cast on group members, and if players are outside the allowed level range no one gets experience. (However, I believe they removed the graying out for the lower level player because people were using it to trivialize certain zones and travel. They would gray out a dungeon until they got to the boss MoB at the bottom, ungroup and kill it to get the drops without having to spend time fighting their way down.)

A monk and a mystic will make a good duo, start them off together and they'll level pretty fast.

Close, the mob still greys out to signify no loot/exp, but will still AGGRO if it normally would to that player.

As for the OP, the others (including you Lydiaele) have pretty much hit the nail on the head, at least from that I know about the game. I would like to add though that people who /mentor are VERY powerful for their level (at lowers at least, not sure about highers) since they basically just made the game cap the higher level's stats for that level. That is about as close to a PL as you are really going to get imo.

So very true. The higher level gear scales down, and you can still get killed, but you are effectively wearing the best gear for that mentored level.

My spells are mostly Adept 3, and do severe damage to the mobs. My favorite part is seeing guildmate jaws drop when I cast a AE nuke that drops 8 gnolls like *that* /snap_fingers.

I two-box when I play. My combos are as follows:

Troubador & Conjuror
Monk & Mystic
Brigand & Defiler

I would have to say that the Monk & Mystic are my favorites. When 2-boxing, running from some battles is just not possible. When I am in a dungeon or cave like setting and having any lag at all, I can sometimes lose my follower if I try to run. With the Monk/Mystic combo when I know I am going down I feign death with the monk and let the Mystic die. When the area is all clear I can then ressurect my Mystic with the precasted ress globe.

The combo is also great because my monk can take and give out a good beating and my mystic can heal and do some damage.

As far as race goes I am more comfortable with the follower being a larger race than the leader. Don't know why that is but it just seems to work better.

The Troub/Conj were my mains until recently. The Troub has a nice evac but all too often the one or the other would go down to quickly to pull out. I would then end up having both dead or at opposite ends of the dungeon.

Can't say too much about the Brigand/Defiler yet. The Brigand can track which is nice.
