1 What is a ranger's most important stat?

stam?
agi? (and what does it do for us? just improve crit rate, or anything else?)

2 also how is the demand for rangers in end-game/pug groups?

3 can a ranger dps like a mage?

4 are we mostly the pull class?

5 tell me stuff you love/hate about your ranger.

thanks allot, for anyone who replys to this.

:)

1. STA raises hitpoints
STR raises melee damage
INT raises nuke damage output
WIS raises magic resist
AGI raises avoidance

A Rangers power pool is derived from their primary stat, AGI. So, a high AGI will ensure you have plenty of power. However, you will also want to mix up your gear to raise STA and STR.

2. Rangers are a DPS class and have the highest range attack. Along with some other nice abilities, thay are always a nice addition to a group.

3. Rangers do their best damage with a bow, having many special bow attacks. During melee, they also have a nice selection of special attacks.

4. Pulling depends on how the group wants to do it. SOme tanks will body-pull, others will taunt-pull. Each is different. If you get a group and would like to be the puller, just let them know.

Although my ranger is still in his early 40s and I haven't reached the end game yet, I would say that there is a good deal of demand for us there. On the whole, ranger DPS can be fantastic and may even exceed mage DPS from time to time. This would depend on variables like poison procs, spell quality level and weapon quality.

Rangers can pull very well. With a decent bow, you can easily drag a mob right into your camp from extreme distance. However most of the groups I have been in have used the tank to pull while the ranger stayed at the outskirts of the camp, stealthed and ready to back-stab as soon as tank returned with the mob(s).

One of the things I love about my ranger is his solo ability! I love being able to kite mobs with my bow. Pulling them in from maxium range and then peppering them with a stream of (free) arrows as they run towards me, only to have them drop dead at my feet leaving my health at 100%

I also love the ranger's group role, sliding in behind the mob and carving it up while it's attention is still riveted on the tank. Or peeling off the primary mob for long enough to rescue some finger wiggler in tissue paper armor who nuked too hard and now has a big bowl of aggro focused on them!

A well buffed, high level ranger, dual-wielding a pair of fast blades is a beautiful thing!

Why does a ranger need STA? STA is about HP. A ranger is not a tank. Maybe if you solo... but then that's just silly...

Rangers should focus on STR, AGI, and INT. STR and INT affect damage and proc rates respectively... AGI is important for mana pool...

Noone said a ranger should focus on stamina... The OP asked if he should boost his sta and Tutan pointed out what each of the 5 primary stats affect.

And fwiw, if (as a ranger) you chose to follow the stamina line in either or both of the AA trees, you would be raising your stamina by between 20 & 80 points by the time you were done... Are you suggesting that because it raises a stat that isn't of primary concern that no ranger should invest in those AA lines?

If that is the case then they must have just been put there as filler...

As a 70 raiding ranger I can tell you that you need STR first (affects damage both melee and ranged), Agility/Int second. Agility is the main base of our power pool and Int affects how much damage the poisons do. All other stats are useless to a ranger. Personally my STR is significantly higher than my AGI and I tend to be one of the top parsers on raids and groups.

As far as Achievement lines, STA line is filler. Most rangers do the Agility line first to get the additional crits on ranged attacks then will do eitehr STR or INT lines. As a raider I found the INT line to be better for me. The STR line might work better for a soloer who does not get to use his bow as much. Personally while I can solo, I dont.

As far as the EOF lines, you will want to get the double attack on ranged first and then add a few points in the caustic poison bonus area. After that it is up to the individual ranger there and several different views are on the Sony boards.

In addition, use a long bow. If you use a short bow you are going to shortchange your abilities. Without getting too technical, procs are based off weapon delay. Long bows have a longer delay and allow for more chances to proc poisons or abilities. The ranger board at Sonys official site is actually pretty good information wise and I suggest you do some searching there to see the decent discussions we have on these topics.
