The thing with the whole raid vs crafted gear I think they could have handled better... instead of giving an outright nerf to crafted gear why not just change the stats on the raid gear to buff them up? I'm sure they could make it so if they wanted to the stats on the "old" raid items would update to whatever they set the "new" items too. Oh well

If my memory serves me right there was an expansion that made some dropped loot better than crafted items. Im unsure if raiding falls into this my memory is foggy, but either way it made the crafters upset. Their beef was why bother making items when others could loot and sell items they got abroad? The last expansion changed that so that most of the crafted items are now better than dropped loot. A lot of my items used are crafted. and before I hit the 60's ALL my gear was crafted. I could never find anything better out there.

So there is a reasoning for crafting if youre into it. You do make a lot of money selling your wares as there are a lot of people out there looking to always upgrade. I personally have never been able to get into it, but then again, Id rather go out and gain my xp as quickly as possible

I was able to make a pretty steady income on crafting weapons, now though with this patch they really hurt us. There still were things better then what I crafted from dropped loot or quests, but just slightly. I'll still continue crafting and using my handmade weapons as fillers until I find something better on the AH, but this LU really nerfed the stats on them it seems like.

Ya tell me about it... I gave an example up above with the whole "changing stat allocation" thingy in (I think) my first post in this thread. Far as I can tell, the weapons I can currently make got all stats but power and health taken off of them for a SLIGHT (see 2) damage rating boost. Used to be I could make DW style weapons with health, power, str, and agi... now it seems I can only make em with health and power. I think I did see some non-dw weapons with some other stats besides health and power though, so all hope isn't lost... but it still sucks.

On the whole, I am pretty happy with the update. I have always been a big fan of crafting and have always enjoyed harvesting. Post LU24, both of those are even more fun for me.

I am of the belief that the newer "easier" crafting will cause prices to fall on the broker and in spite of the fact that I have earned most of my income through broker sales, I don't have a problem with that either.

I also believe that since final combines are now easier to make, and since they take less time for me to craft, I can afford to turn them over at a much lower margin and still make a living.

But the big bonus for me is that even with limited play time, I can now make "freebies" for friends and guildies without feeling that it is absorbing a sizable chunk of my meager game time. In the past, altruism had it's price, but not any more!

As far as changing stats on player made items, I can live with it... after all, the majority of the player base does not raid or take down boss mobs on a regular basis so the items I make will still have better stats than most of what they can aquire. Unless brokered high end dropped gear takes a huge dip in price... However, I don't think that is likely because with their new increased availability, the price of rares should also fall and adventurers who strip mine for income will lose that revenue stream.

Overall comment; well done, SOE... Thank you! /doffs hat

Well, after getting some time to muck around with the changes with a little i'm also on the whole happy. While the stats were lowered/changed a bit on the weapons I can make, it isn't as bad as I thought at first. I was kind of accidentally looking at the wrong weapon... I like the new "no-subcombine" thing and being able to harvest larger amounts of raws is really nice. Heck, earlier I got a rare item and TEN normals at the same time! (Well or so I think) talk about luck and stocking up. Now, if only I could USE said rare... Oh well, maybe selling it will buy me one I can ;)

Edit: Well after making a few, my statement still stands on the changing of stats and such. Some for the better, some for the worse.

Unfortunately that's not true, and that's the core of the problem. You can get better drops than rare crafted for the same tier in places like the newbie adventure yards, Wailing Caves, StormHold, Blackburrow, Sanctum of the ScaleBorn and more are being added with every LU. All you need is a small group, not even a full one.

I do like being able to quickly churn out a piece for someone or a stack of them to sell on the broker, and I like being able to harvest (i'm estimating) 3 times faster than before, but that convenience comes at a price. It takes less time and dedication to level a tradeskill, so the items you can make are less valuable.

During the lead-up to this overhaul one of the devs referred to rare crafted items as "gained with little risk by digging something out of the ground (if you're patient enough)" Apparently the time and effort it took the crafter to get to the level required to make the item was meaningless.

Of course what really matters is how it works in game. I used to get 2 or 3 tells a week out of the blue from people asking me to make them T6 cobalt weapons, and I still get them now and then. I've been at level 69 or 70 for a couple months now, and I have had exactly zero requests for Xegonite weapons. If I found or bought some cobalt, made some weapons and put them on the broker they sold within a few days. I've had a few xenogite pieces sitting on the broker for 2 weeks now. If people don't want your stuff, there's no point in crafting to me.

Absolutely true. and while I can't speak for armorers or weaponsmiths (since I don't have one) I can tell you that in my limited experience, things have not been quite that bad for tailors and woodworkers. My items continue to sell, albiet at a slower pace, and I have every hope that things will improve.

I also sincerely hope that not every item in your recipe book will meet with it's current level of indifference.

May you find buyers for that which you have already crafted and additional items that have a higher demand.
