Is there any form of auctions in EQ2? If so, how does it work?

If your coming from wow then you're going to find this game's system quite a bit less auction-like and alot more store-like.

Theres a worldwide (PVE) / citywide (PVP) Broker system that allows you to sell items you want over a system of NPCs (similar to the auctioneers) found throughout the big cities. Most brokers can be found inside Tradeskill zones, although theres one for each of these Cities out in the main commerce area.

Its just been changed today, so I'm still not 100% sure about everything, but I'm fairly sure they changed it to where you can just go up to any of the brokers now and click them, then go to the Sell tab. You should have Spaces to sell up in the top left corner of the window. In these spaces you may then put Boxes/Bags to increase your effective selling capacity.

When you drag and drop onto the slot or onto the bag/box in the slot, it will add it to your Stores inventory list and give it a price based on how much a Merchant would give for the same item. Most of the time you're going to want to sell for quite a bit more than this, so you just need to set the price and make sure that it is flagged to sell.

If you are looking to buy off this system, then simply go to a broker and click them. Then theres a search and advanced search depending on if you want to search by name or by stats/class/level/price. When you click buy it automatically charges your character and you recieve the item immediately in your inventory. The broker charges a 20% finders fee to the BUYER, while the seller gets 100% of what he has asked.

Thats basically all there is to know, its alot more simple than a Auctioning system once you get down to it.
