PvP QuestionFollow

#1 Jun 12 2006 at 2:01 AM Rating: Decent
I have been reading all of the forums and it seems that all PvP classes have strengths and weaknesses against certain classes.

1. My question is, if I play on a PvP server, is it still going to be possible to have a fun role-playing experience (doing quests, etc...)without getting ganked the whole time?

2. Is it as mandatory as it seems that I play some sort of scout on a PvP server? I really would like to be something that interests me and have fun more than worrying about being a good PvP class. Although, I clearly do not want to suck (I know I will for a while). I would like to be a healer than can deal some damage and stand a fair chance in PvP battles with other classes. Wardens and Furies seem to fit this bill, but I'm just not experienced enough with EQ to know if they are decent or not!

THANKS!

I have 0 experiance with PvP in EQ2, however the questions you asked are more of a general thing that applies to all games... so take what I say with a grain of salt as like I said I have had 0 PvP experiance in EQ2.

1. If you want RP then it is best to join a RP server... for doing quests, ect you will always run into the few people who like to show how "uber" they are by ganking lower level chars. Some people will just let you get on with your questing, especially if they are doing the same, while others will pick a fight with you any place, any time. It's all part of life on a PvP server in general, and that is probably about the main response you're going to get asking this question no matter where you go.

2. This is more of a EQ2 only thing the first, however I doubt it will make a difference. Keep in mind scouts can see each other while stealthed, and several classes also get a "see invisibility" spell so the main reason to pick a scout is if you want to drop things quick and be able to sneak around. Each class has strengths and weaknesses when it comes to fighting... Besides that though, there are many variables that will come into play... like for example armor and spell levels. Pit two scouts vs each other, one with almost everything adept 1 or higher and with some raid/rare crafted armor, the other with just the base App. 1 and mostly quested armor and chances are the first player will win. Take two of the same job and the same gear, and it will come down to who knows the job best.

Obviously this is more from a general PvP standpoint in other games (see WoW) that have PvP servers, but with a slight spin of what little I know about EQ2 PvP.

This thread would probably be better asked on the PvP section of the official forums. Most people who post here on Alla don't do PvP from what I can gather.

1. There is a RP-PVP server. But if it is anything like the other PvP servers you will be ganked on sight by anybody who is in your level range. This is the norm for any pvp server. I would think on a RP server they would gank even more because alot of people will play the holier than thou card and gank anybody who is of the opposing alignment.

2. You don't have to play a scout but they are very good. But in my opinion the actuall best class in pvp is Bruiser/Monk a warrior based class. I do believe Wardens and Furies are the better fighters of the clerics.

I enjoyed my time on the Vox PVP server. I have never liked PvP in any other game so they made me happy which is extremely hard to do.

shadow has some terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE advice.

The best solo PvP classes are either Rangers (Qeynos) or Assassins (Freeport). They have the handy combination of Track (find other players to gank, see other people coming for you before they get there and get out of the way), Stealth (harder to see, harder to track), extremely strong burst DPS (drop someone fast then get out of there, even in a group) and Evacuate (.5 second casting time spell that ports you and your group out of the area - basicially a "Get out of jail free" card if you start to lose a fight). Rangers tend to specialized more in ranged damage, assassins more in close-up damage; in general Assassins do have the advantage, but both are superb PvP classes.

Next up would be either Conjurors or Necromancers. While having your tanking pet out is rather... worthless in PvP, in general they tend to be extremely strong when they have their mage pet out in PvP, simply because they can have their pets do good DPS while they do their best to stay out of range, either through just running around or rooting.

Most healers are very strong in terms of PvP, but if I had to pick one it'd either be the Warden or the Fury. Fury's are more offensively oriented, and do occassionaly get very strong nukes; Wardens are more defensive, and they get Evacuate if they get into trouble.

For PvPing as a Fighter, it has to be either Berserker or Brawler (Monk or Bruiser). Crusaders (Paladin/Shadow Knight) tend to be godawful in PvP, and a Guardian is... well, no. Pick either a Berserker (Plate tank, good AE damage especially at higher levels, very good regenerate abilities) or a Brawler (good stuns, high DPS, avoidance tank - tends to dodge most abilities but if they land they hurt) if you want to spend a fair bit of time soloing.

I really hate to see Shadowrelm on the gaming boards giving this type of horrible advice. Its not like when he rambles on the OOT forums and people ignore him. Here he is just giving solidly bad advice based off little to no first hand experience to people who don't know any better.

If you have better info about PvP that would benefit the OP, then how about posting it Smiley: smile

Maybe you're right about Shadowrelm's post but if you give us no counteracting info, we might be tempted to think you're just trying to stir up a bit of drama Smiley: wink

Do you think RP is off in his criticism of SR's advice?
