In this game it really just comes down to personal preference. Some folks will tell you you need the extra stats from a shield and so you should be using a 1 hander with shield. Personally, I like the way my characters look wielding a 2 handed staff or hammer so both my druids walk softly and carry a big stick!

More important (to me) is that the weapon, whatever kind it is, be player made rare if affordable and definately imbued! The extra damage from the 5% proc on these weapons by far outweighs the damage done by the stick itself.
