anyone know of any good solo guides or could recommend a good place to start for a 20 ranger? I haven't played in a very long time so any help or recommendations would be appreciated.

For an easy challenge, you could hunt the bears and wolves on the northeast corner of Antonica.

For a bigger challenge with bigger rewards, go to Thundering Steppes and hunt on the road to the docks. Be sure to stop by and talk to the dwarf on the way down. He'll task you to kill XX mobs and return for a cash prize.

For even greater rewards, get in a group and go to Blackburrow or Stormhold (both in Antonica).

Make sure you have the best bow you can afford and always use poisons.

what kinda items you looking for? You looking for money i would stay in antonica (stormhold and BB) there is ussally easy kills and easy money and you can also skill up there. Another place i found good once you get to about 30+ is the giants and around that area they drop good money once they die and if you know how to solo right with ranger you will be making money fast till higher levels.. You might also want to try mining thats where i made all my money if thats what your looking for

I'm not really looking for items so much as a place to solo grind, maybe make a little money on the side. Could you give me any tips on soloing as a ranger?

When you step into a higher tier zone, the loot drops will always be better than the previous tier. You should go to Thundering Steppes - lots of solo mobs there within your level range.

Make sure you have poison activated.
Use a ranged skill that deals high damage or a debuff like Wounding Arrow.
Use another bow skill if you have time.
Switch to melee weapons.
Use debuffs to weaken the enemy.
Stun the mob with Cheap Shot, then move behind it to use rear/flanking skills.
Melee normally, using HO's for extra damage.
Once Cheap Shot has refreshed, repeat until mob is dead.
