#1 May 30 2006 at 3:25 PM Rating: Good
I have been considering getting a new laptop. If I do I would like to get one that will run EQ II. I know that my niece play on a laptop so it is doable. Anyone here have a lapto that runs it?

I use a Dell XPS and EQ2 runs flawlessly. Great graphics and no lag

I have a good friend who plays on a top notch laptop, (64MB vid card bla bla bla...). However, she still can't get above the lowest graphics setting. I also have a nice laptop, (64MB ATI vid card, 2GB of ram, 2.3Ghz CPU, bla bla bla...) and I also cannot get above the lowest setting on it.

I imagine that if you can find a lap top with a 128MB vid card you would be able to get up off the ground floor but you will still probably never get anywhere near balanced.

I play on a 1 year old gaming laptop.

While the settings tooks me about 3 hours worth of tampering with I finally got something that looks pretty and runs like butter.

My Friend has a Dell xps Laptop, and the game runs just as good on his xps laptop, as my xps desk top.

I run a cyberpower laptop intel 3.8 - 256mb Nvidia 7800gtx -
DDR II 2GB PC4300 DDR533 SODIMM

most gameplay can run above balanced but for raiding i like to keep it balanced or high.

I think i donated an arm for this bad boy...

I am looking at that CyberPower you listed and the MacBook with duo processor. Of course the Mac will cost me a whole lot more moola.

I finally made my decision and went with the MacBook Pro. My co-worker has one and he graciously installed EQ II and let me test it out. It out plays my secondary computer and will certainly rival my primary computers graphic ability.

And for the price I paid it's like getting two computers in one. I have a Mac with OS X and a PC with Win XP. How can you beat that? Not too mention how stable the Macs are. That's what I work with on a daily basis and they far outshine the PCs.
When I log in to my Mac and PC at work I am always waiting around for the PC to load up while my Mac is up and working.

And I get a free Nano iPod. Now I just have to wait for it to arrive. Woot!

I run both EQ2 and WoW on a Vaio laptop with a 1.7 centrino, and an ATI 9600 based graphics system. Sure I have the graphics all on half strength, but if I have broadband access, it runs just great.

One of the things that makes my system run well is the 13 inch widescreen monitor. The smaller screen eases the work of the graphics system. The small screen also enables my laptop to fit in a small briefcase etc. I needed a laptop to carry, not be a desktop replacement.

The other thing that is required in my opinion is at least a gig of memory, which is the max my laptop will take.

I have a gateway laptop only a few months old and it runs WOW almost flawlessly... but I fear if I ever played EQ2 I would have wasted my money on a game I can barely play, and since it's a laptop it's not very upgradable. I can't read off to you the exact stats, so there's not much you can say in my defense, just thought I'd throw this in.

Unless you need the mobility I don't ever recomend a laptop over a desktop. You're paying more money for less bang.

I got my PC less than a year before my laptop and the stats aren't much different, yet my PC barely runs WOW. I can't explain that.

Mobility/space

Some people just don't have room for a desktop tower and monitor. College students for example would probably be pressed to find room for one.

I agree though, if you can get a desktop, a desktop is the way to go.

Yea also while I don't need the mobility it sure is nice everynow and then to just pick up my computer and go anywhere I can pick up a wireless signal and either surf or play online. Also I rarely sitdown and play anymore I lay in bed and play or I'm on the couch laying down.

Ok, now I am really in heaven. I got my new MacBook Pro, installed Win XP w/service pack 2 on a seperate partion on the hard drive. This thing runs EQ II like a champ. I can run the game with the graphics cranked almost to the top without any lag.

One of my sons played on it last night and was really impressed. It's a very stable running laptop. The only problem I had with it was a Windows side crash. I have used Macs at work for years and have always been extremely impressed with their stabiltiy. The only reason I have never owned one before was because I could not EQ on it. Yes, I could EQ Live on a Mac only serve, but then that meant leaving friends and family. But now I have been rewarded with the best of both worlds. The graphics are so clear and detailed it knocks my socks off. I have always built my own systems and beefed them up for EQ so for me it's a real thrill to have something out of a box that plays so well.

Here are the juicy specs:
15.4-inch widescreen display
1440x900 resolution
2.16GHz Intel Core Duo(1)
1GB (single SO-DIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM
100GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive
4x SuperDrive
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB GDDR3 memory
One FireWire 400 and two USB 2.0 ports

This thing is so sleek and sexy looking.

I placed my order and had it within a week. I also got an "almost free" after rebate Nano 2GB.

And now I am the happiest mother around because my son and his finacee have left EQ Live for EQ II. They did this about a month ago but could only play with me on Mondays at my house. My son's computer couldn't play EQ II but his fiancee's could. I just built her system for Christmas. My son has been drooling over her system ever since. Since I now have a laptop that rivals my main system I was able to send my second Shuttle and LCD monitor home with my son. Now he and his fiancee can play EQ II anytime with me and not only on Mondays.

Now all I have to do is convince my eldest son it's time to make the change. Unfortunately he is extremely into raiding guilds and won't come easily. I could probablly win him over if I built him a new system but at the moment I am very tapped out.
