Is EQ2...Follow

Is EQ2 truly as bad as everyone in EQ1 says???
I realized when I was downloading EQ2 that most of the graphics look better for an RPG considering it's only on the computer, but to think that maybe EQ2 is better would be nice ^_^ ...
My brother and cousin both keep bragging on about EQ1 and that it's way better then EQ2... but i personally would never know because I donth have an account on them.

If anybody can help me out (info, details, etc..) it'd be awesome.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. When I first started eq2 and went through the learning curve I was ready to go back to eq1 simply because I knew it. There's all kind of reasons why people like one and not the other, graphics, it's different, this class was uber now it's not, simplier, etc. I've played both and I give the nod to EQ2. Why? Because I enjoy the questing system in eq2. If you want to play with your brother and cousin then give eq1 a shot. You'll probably enjoy it too.

I can't believe you would ask a question this tilted here, on an EQ2 forum unless you were just trolling and looking to start an argument.

It's like asking someone if they have stopped beating their wife... there just is no good way to answer a sandbag like that!

Best thing for you to do would be to find out about the game for yourself... the trial version is free, afterall.

I played EQ1 for several years, and when EQ2 came out and I saw the graphics, I never looked back.

If you look at the two games strictly from a graphics view, they are like night and day. EQ1 has graphics that are many years old. The textures are not actually textures, but graphic images stretched out and laid flat. The terrain is shaped like a polygon with a few sides and sharp angles.

When you increase the textures in EQ2, you can actually see more bumps, lines, and shadows on the terrain. You also will see more detail on the armor down to the chain link and the waving cloth.

Combat in EQ1 looks like manequins trying to fight. They bend at the waist, stifly swing a weapon which doesn't seem to touch the opponent, then go back to standing erect.

Combat in EQ2 starts with the character getting a scowl on their face, drawing a weapon, and moving to a combat stance. You can watch them actually balance on their feet as they position for an attack.

The attack swing winds up as if the weapon has actual weight, swings with a large swoosh arc, and makes contact with a visual and audible effect. The mob that is hit will fall to it's knees, get knocked backwards, or shake and shudder from the impact.

If you've ever watched a EQ2 Monk fight...I get goose-bumps.

There are many different attack moves for different classes. Different spells also have many different gestures and movements.

Spells will have dazzling effects not only from you but from your party and the opponent.

People in EQ1 that say EQ2 is bad are most likely (1) afraid to loose the EQ1 population so spread bad press, (2) EQ1 fanbois that have never tried the game past the Trial of the Isle - if at all, (3) played at launch with all the bugs and left, never to return after all the updates, patches, and fixes.

It's important to remember that although the games share the same lore history, they are two completely different games with different rules, mechanics, and play. Try this then tell us what you think.

Okay, I can answer this question objectively. I played EQ1 (am still kind of playing it actually) for almost 5 years. Have a druid, bard, and some lowbies that I never bothered to get past 25. I started playing EQ2 shortly after it was released and I frankly HATED it. All the quests, nothing was whereit should be, I was, frankly, probably not ready to leave EQ1. In 1 I'm in a raiding guild, I am lvl 70 with about 400 aa. So I'm not a casual player. It was tough to give up my 100K plat and walk away.

A friend of mine, recently told me to give 2 another chance. Things had changed a lot and much of the tedium I detested was gone. That and Sony's announcement that I'm going to have to endure 5 more levels of exp grind with the new EQ1 expansion made me decide to renew my station pass and give 2 another try. I've only just started back. I started a new character rather than try to remember how to play a character I haven't touched in a year and I love it. I am honestly thinking of stopping my station pass and switching to just EQ2, but no need to be rash, we'll get to that when we come to it.

Anyone else asking the same question, try it for yourself. If you don't like it, you can always go back to what you know. EQ1 will still be there.
