I don't know how ATI compares in speed with the nvidia cards, but if it has 256 ram it should AT LEAST compare to a geforce FX I would guess? In any case I have run eq2 with a geforce 3 with 128 ram and it ran quite acceptable. My friend actually ran the game on a geforce 2 32 megs of ram, however he lagged big time in groups and in towns.

Will it run? Probably

Will it look decent? I'd have to give that a big fat NO.

ATI cards aren't that bad, and the radeon series is nice. I'm using a 9700 Pro with 128 ram and it runs pretty nice, but I also have 2gigs ram and a 2ghz AMD Athlon 64 CPU in my PC. The big hold back for you is this:

PCI cards just don't have the speed as a AGP card, unless you're talking about a PCI-E(xpress) card, but with that old a card I highly doubt it. Normally PCI is a very bad choice for any quality video (again, unless you're talking about a PCI-E card which is faster then AGP) because of it's slow data transfer speed. I only know of one other PCI card out there (i'm sure there are more though) and let me tell you it is CRAPTASTIC! Just because of the fact it is a PCI card i'd say the closest comparison card for people to judge from is the GeForce 5200... arguably the most crap-tastic video card ever made.

EQ2 is a hog when it comes to video. I got a radeon 9800 pro and have to run mostly on Performance and still only get 10-15fps in towns.

I would suggest checking price compare sites for video cards. I was looking at a new AGP card myself (no PCI-X slot T_T), and the prices varied amazingly from company to company. I mean by over $120 on a $250 card (that was the lowest price. Highest was $370)! It pays to look around, since no one company will have the lowest price. I suggest to just find what you want, and then Google "<name of card> price compare", and you will get hundreds of price comparing sites, with links to where you can buy it for that price.

I dont know if any card available today can run EQ2 at a smooth frame rate with everything on high. As even SoE says, this game is designed to grow with improving technology. This means the requirements are sky-high, but it just keeps on looking better, no matter how much more system you give it ;-)

Unless your mobo supports PCI-E then no it wont work. I believe even the slots are different, so no chance in hell it will work. If the card you have right now is a AGP slot then you should be ok. I only have a 128meg 9800 pro and can run pretty good. Though I do have 2gigs of ram in my PC so that helps some I bet :P
