Coming to EQ2(Yes, another one)Follow

#1 May 27 2006 at 12:37 PM Rating: Decent
And yes, I am comming from the WoW Community. I have ordered the game and expect to get online soon, but I have a few questions I would like you to answer. Thanks for any help=D

-In WoW, many server's economies were inflated due to gold buying, so many items were only for sale for ridiculously high prices, how is the economy for EQ2?

-I have seen some quests where I guess you 'betray' your alliance and go to the other faction (good to evil, evil to good) does that mean for all characters, or only some races/classes?

-And finally...
I am really looking for a class with a mixture of spell casting and melee fighting (where the class is decent at both and has abilities for both, not just a mage archetype swinging a staff around) Any suggestions?

Sorry for the long post, I know you have seen many threads with questions from people who are switching over. Sorry, but I am 100% new to this, so have barely any grasp as to what is going on ; P Thanks for any help!

In a word, vibrant! There are some plat sellers still doing business, a handful of farmers & bots and the occasional duping scheme, but by and large, SOE's plan is working.

They have taken a hard line stance on plat sellers and dupers and evict them from the game, banning all accounts as soon as they are discovered. There has always been a bot presence (and probably always will be) but it doesn't seem to have a major effect on the economy as a whole.

You can betray any Qeynos character to Freeport or any Freeport character to Qeynos. You can even take them back again. Just be aware that when you complete the quest, all of your spells/combat arts will reset to the lowest level so anything you have upgraded is lost.

I would try a fury. They are a healer (one of the druid classes) and so they do a lot of casting but their melee/combat skills are the highest for any healer class. They might just get the job done for you.

An add-on to the betrayal thing and the economy...

Betray:

As of right now, I believe that you can only betray if you are under like 15 in level. In the next LU (Live Update; I believe it is slated to hit next month) this is going to change to be any level.

Economy:

I agree it is pretty good right now... however, the market is becoming (and is partially atm) an alt's market imo. This in no way makes it harder for new players to come in though. Just make sure you take up a tradeskill (which is undergoing a MAJOR revamp next LU) and sell finished things when you can. You should be fine on money that way, and if you pick something that you can use, like say tailoring for making your own light armor (not sure what armor classes Fury can use if you do go that route) then you have a good way to make your own armor and gold at the same time.

Where can one find out all the info about the new LU's?

Oh, and I see that there are lots of different upgrades for EQ2, should I get them all, or are they really not needed?

Oh, and reccomend any server(type or exact) to start out with?

((Naa, no edit: might as well get my post count up =D))

For the LUs, the EQ2 forums (http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/) should hold the info in the Dev section (or something like that)

For the server, I know a few people from the alla forums are on something like Nanjea or something in a guild called Foundation or something... So you could go with that.

Personally (and this is pretty in general when dealing with multiple server types) I would suggest starting on either a PvE or RP server, if RP is your thing. This gives you a chance to learn the game in a more friendly manner then a PvP server, even if at lower levels on a PvP you don't see people who could kill you. Kind of the same with WoW.

The other choice you have is to whether to make your char on a exchange (ex is the way they lable it I believe) server or not. I think there are only like 2 or 3 exchange servers. Basically think servers where you can buy/sell items and plat legally through Sony's website. Going to other sites that aren't the official station exchange site is still grounds for banning though. You really shouldn't ever be in any real need for plat and should still have decent gear between drops and quest rewards and anything you happen to craft if you take that route.

Thank you guys for all your help!

I got the game, and am downloading it now (does seem to take forever...)

I plan on making a Wood Elf Fury -or- Swashbuckler, and ya, I kinda do like RP so I might as well head over to the nearest server.

See ya around in game!

I'm an officer in a scout only guild (both good and evil though i'm on the evil side lol) on Lucan D'Lere (sp?) which is an RP server, so if you make the swashy let me know here and i'll try to set up something with one of the "good" members of the guild to meet you if you go good. I Can't remember if Wood Elf is able to both bad and good or just good... and since i'm a Dark Elf I can only be evil Smiley: sly
