I was just wondering what the most underplayed class was in the game right now? Also is there any particular reason they are that way?

Oh also same question for the tradeskills.

Judas!!

Least played, probably Shamans (Mystics or Defilers) or in my limited experience (only lvl 38) I dont see many Bard types or Brigands.

Grouping is pretty flexible. All you need is Healer, Tank and DPS and since EQ2 has 4 tank classes and 4 healer classes its easier to find a tank/healer than say in WoW. Its actually common to hear requests like "Runnyeye group looking for DPS!".

Of course the saying "play what you enjoy" still rings true. I dabbled in a number of classes but ranger just struck me as fun. I enjoy playing it more and more.

As to crafting its like WoW in that you gather resources from nodes out in the field. Then you go back to town to the crafting instance and make stuff. Of course its much more complicated, and the things you make to level up are much more useful/profitable.

Coercer is the least played class in the game across all servers. IMHO there are two reasons for this.

1) Fewer people play evil side. Apart from Shadowknights and Necros, evil only classes are all near the bottom.

2) Enchanters have yet to find their special purpose in EQ2, where crowd control is not important in 90% of the game content.

The second least played class is Brigand, the evil only rogue. I've never heard any complaints about that class.

Based on official forum post counts the least played tradeskill class is Jeweler. I have no idea why. They have 6 slots to fill for all characters, there's never enough jewelery on the broker, and they do scout combat arts runes on top of that.

That said, most classes that produce gear aren't doing so well because fairly common dropped and quested items outclass our stuff. That's getting worse for armorers with the next LU, but it looks like weapons are actually being improved. We'll see.

Yea there are plenty of dropped items that are equal to, if not better then common handcrafted jeweled stuff. You got the shard quests for your wrists, and the shard quest for a super nice necklace at higher levels (as in I think 40?). Also several dropped rings and earrings. I have also found most handcrafted stuff for these slots is really overpriced. I guess what few we do have feel the need to overcharge. They claim its because the harvestables are harder to get, but they are just as easy as the stuff for metal armor and actualyl easier then leather.

I would say Enchanters are in the bottom 3 of played classes, Bards and Mystics are probably in the bottom too.

I play a Brig and let me say that I love it. We are really high damage, have many fun little abilities, and have decent staying power for mobs that turn their attention to us.

I don't know why we would be a low played class, i'd have to mess around with the other scout archtypes to see how they compare at a low level, but maybe it is like you said, fewer people play evil, though that seems to be a common thing in any game with "good and evil" sides.

Maybe a reason Brigs aren't played much is we are so high damage we can't live up to full potentional in a group because of hate. I'm not sure if these are scout abilities or brigand, but some of the more nifty (high damage) ones we get are:

(Names may be off since often spells get more powerful with different names but have same icon and effects, damage is also just off the top of my head and is rough amounts)

Flurry, at my level (24) and having gotten Master 1 level, this is a two-fold attack that deals like 70-90 damage each hit (off the top of my head) though if the first misses the second wont hit.

At 26 there is a book I have my eye on (want to wait for then in case I learn it naturally) that is an upgraded Flurry that deals like 110-130 or so damage each hit like flurry.

Black Jack, stuns target for 5 seconds and deals something like 160-200 damage at the same time.

Rake, have to be behind target but like 200+ damage.

Pretty much all of my combat abilities deal like close to 100 damage right now. I can take down a mob a level or 2 higher then me in like 20 seconds or so if all my timers are up.

Besides those, we have some nifty things that change hate around and put us in stealth, we also have one (i'm not sure how it works for sure though so this is just a guess) called Ruse that decreases our threat, def, attack, ect... We fall over "dead" but when the mob takes a melee hit (or we do, not sure like I said) we pop up and deal like 200 damage or something.

So, maybe because we are too high damage? I don't know, i'm really loving it personally and that news is interesting to me.

As for tradeskilling, it does seem to be that prices for any crafted goods are high right now (higher then quest rewards and dropped items and such, and the market is leaning towards an alt's market atm imo so that explains it a little), but I seem to have the most problems finding things like rings and such personally. Though I do have quest rewards that are pretty good so I really should say that have decent stats for me.

out of curiousity, from all the MMOs you've played before, has there been any specific job/class that you find yourself drawn to?

I've always played random ones.

In FFXI I was a THF, RDM, and BST.

In WoW I play a pretty much every single class, due to how easy it is to level.

My favorite is warrior, but that is just for right now.

Hey Tomec long time no see.

Brigands are not common but they do insane damage...one of the most underrated class imo...

Illusionists and Coercers (especially coercers) are really rare and are on the recruiting list of a lot of top raiding guilds across all servers due to their rarity.

Bards have been nerfed to extinction, so you don't see much of them either (even though i still love my troubador). Troubies will be hit again with the nerf bat in the next LU...

I would say that from what I've seen myself, these would be the rarest of played classes.

I'm with Lamnethx here, I play randomly too...

Anyways, ya long time. I've been floating around playing various things like FFXI and a little bit of WoW, but a friend of mine (Aacra) got me on the idea of trying EQ2 so thats what i'm doing atm. Got to say it is pretty nice, sort of like the middleground between ffxi and wow. Whether I continue playing for much longer after my free trial is up though I don't know yet. But I probably will for at least a month or two.

I never played FFXI, so I could be totally wrong here, but it looks as if you would enjoy the fighter/scout classes more than the mage classes. My own advice is to play with a few different types of classes until you get a feel for each one and then go with what seems to fit best. Yeah yeah, standard response, but if you're going to check out a new game, why pigeon hole yourself and decide you hate your class which makes you not like the game?

Scouts are a ton of fun.

Dirge, Troubadour, Ranger, Swashbuckler, Brigand or Assassin.

My main is a ranger and is a thief from FFXI with some good range skills also. The swashbuckler seems to have a lot of backstabs, couple aoe attacks, couple debuffs..

The nice thing about FFXI Warrior vs. EQ2 Fighter classes, is that Fighters in EQ2 actually have skills, and lots of them, just like a Mage. In FFXI, pretty much your only skill was Taunt, and besides that, all you do it auto-hit. Fighters here are a very active, intense class. Pretty much like all of them :)

Most high level crafters only put rare items on the broker because the common items usually don't sell. This is more true the higher up you go.

You should see a big change in the amount of crafted gear and it's price once the no-subs revamp goes through (June 14th, I think).
