Coming to eq2...necro or warlock?Follow

#1 May 23 2006 at 8:39 PM Rating: Decent
After clearing the endgame in WoW, having 3 lvl 60's and a char of every other class WoW has (which is a limited amount,) I've decided to give EQ2 a try. I had a lvl 70 enchanter in the original eq and loved it, but this time i want to do something that'll do some actual damage. From what i've read, locks in EQ2 are kind of similar to WoW, with the nice dd, dots and ae. I'm just kind of wondering which one is more group friendly/ useful and which one just more fun. Thanks!

A Necromancer controls a pwerful pet. They get 3 types of pets which are generally classed as tank, scout, and mage. The particluar pets fill roles and have strengths/weaknesses as their class indicates:
Tank: lots of HP and defense. Low DPS.
Scout: medium HP, defense, and DPS.
Mage: low defense and HP, high DPS.

Each pet can be used to match the situation. If you are soloing tough mobs, then use the tank pet. If you are in a group with a stsrong tank and healer, use the scout or mage pet.

Necro's also have life tap ability to transfer life between him and the pet. At higher levels they get a Resurrect and Escape (evac).

Warlocks are the evil version of Wizards. Both are masters of high damage. Basic tactic is root/nuke/repeat.

Both classes have buffs to assist the party, but I feel a Necro would be a more challenging class to play. Bear in mind that there is a significant Live Update coming to change the way Summoners (Necromancer/Conjurer) are, basically making life tougher for them.

ALl classes have a viable place in a party. I've even been in all caster parties with no tank or healer, and we did great!

Most important, play one that is fun for you, as that will make the game experience that much sweeter. :)

Far as grouping goes I wouldn't say any of them would be any better or worse in a group. Far as soloing goes really its the same. Some people say a Warlock can solo better, others will say the Necro can. I can say a NEcro would be easier to solo wiht, but I have heard of people doing amazing things with some skill and tactics using a warlock to solo.

i have both and i have to say that i find it easier to solo with a Necro, only because of my pet, warlock definitely takes a little more quick thinking because your enemy is onnly attacking you. by the way i would lalso like to note that the warlock is not really the evil version of the Wiz, because they can both be used in either Freeport or Queynos, the only difference is Wiz is based around ice and fire, and Lock is based around poison and disease.

It depends a lot on what classes you group with regularly. My army buddy is going to make a necro when we get back from Afghanistan. A necro will duo much better with my shadowknight than a warlock. We'll have both toons debuffing and doing massive disease damage. That will be wicked!
