Acquiring spell upgrades - buying from merchantsFollow

#1 May 23 2006 at 9:24 AM Rating: Decent
Ok,
Ive played EQ2 a couple times. Once when it first came out. I quit, went to WOW. Came back for a couple days. Quit.

Heres my beef. I get my characters up to about 16th. I need to upgrade my spells. I go to the broker with 21sp. ALL of the money Ive made from level 1, off two characters mind you.
An apprentice IV was going for 4 gold. Twinkage inflation.

So I figure I will make my spells. I try gathering up materials. Spend time grinding through scrolls.
But I get 1 hour a night to play.
I was spending two days gathering and grinding for one night of playing. That just wasnt working. So went back to WOW, where I can just go to my class trainer and pay a non inflated price on a spell.

Now I really like the graphics of EQ2. I like the playstyle, lore and environment. But I dont want to spend so much time grinding through tradeskills.
Im sure most people dont feel that spending a couple hours doing that isnt much. But thats two days of playtime for me, and I feel like Im wasting what little free time I have.

Any comments or suggestions on this?

Thanks,
Mal

I didnt have this problem starting off.

I put two bags into my house vault slots and started brokering off any attuneable gear, spell scrolls, crafting books etc. I have done barely any crafting (only crafting lvl 7).

I am at lvl 37 and have 1 plat and 40 gold. My 14 Templar has about 10g.

Ill give that a shot.

Selling your items (armour and weapons don't really sell that well, collectibles and spells tend to do lots better) is a must in this game.

Lots of stuff is vendor trash, at times (at a higher level though) you will find an item that will sell for quite a lot (best item I found that could only be sold to a vendor was worth almost 3 gp so far).

You can find cheaper updates to apprentice 2 at your trainer, usually not that much better but for some spells an update is an update.

Especially at a lower level, updating your spells to adept shouldn't be that costly though, I found all my spells at your level for less than 1 gold. (maybe one or two not) Could be just your server, could be that you looked at the broker at a bad moment.

In fact updates to spells beforelevel 20 don't make all that much difference. There might be 10% increase in damage going from App I to App IV, for instance.

What server are you on? If you're on Nektulos I would be happy to make you some App IV spells up to lvl 30 or combat arts up to 20. Send me a tell.

FYI, spellmaking and harvesting are changing. You've probably already seen that no subcombines are necessary for spells up to level 19. That's going to be across the board (and for all crafted items) with the next Live Update (24)

Harvesting is going become a lot easier too. You'll have a chance to harvest multiple raws on each attempt. People on test have been reporting getting 3 raws per attempt about half the time when they're skill is about appropriate for the zone. Occasionally you'll get 10 per attempt. Harvesting tools have been added too, which speed up the harvesting process.

Though why they gave those tools to Woodworkers (last I heard) I'll never know. I would think picks, axes and shovels are right up a weaponsmith's alley, but no... If you have a woodworker and you're on your toes prepare to get stinking rich real fast.

WOW! The improvements just keep coming in this game.

I just heard about removing the subcombines, which made tradeskilling to time intensive for me. No subcombines makes it definately workable.
Now Harvesting is getting faster. Fantastic.
Cant wait to get my trio of Warlocks (Coercers?, Wizards? Necromancers maybe) up and running. Need to pick up my third account on the way home, hehe.

Thanks for all the comments guys.
