Looking to join the gameFollow

#1 May 19 2006 at 11:06 PM Rating: Decent
I'm looking to come over to the game from WoW, because WoW has become completely repetative and boring. Was wondering if the downloaded version of eq2 from http://www.direct2drive.com/225/product/Buy-EverQuest%C2%AE-II-Download
(link found from the official eq2 site) includes the expansions that has come out since eq2's release? It doesn't specifically say, so wondering if anyone would know if I'd need to go out and get them. Thanks.

No. The basic game download does not include either of the 2 available expansions or either of the 2 available adventure packs (like a mini expansion).

The basic game will allow you to get to lvl 50, the 1st expansion will take you from 50 to 60 and the 2nd expansion will take you from 60 to 70.

If you buy the basic game from a store instead of downloading you will also get the 2nd expansion but will still need to purchase the 1st expansion at some point.

The adventure packs are completely optional and you can cap out your adventure level without them. However, they are a lot of fun.

Judging by the download size and the fact I know you can buy/download the expansions seperately i'd say no. I only have the base game I went out and bought, and it was on TWO DvD-Roms, which hold a lot more data then cds (about 4x on average). I also have a friend who bought a combo pack of Kingdom of Sky and the base game, he said it was like 9 discs total... even 9 cds are going to be more then 3 gigs.

Edit: I see OldBlueDragon beat me to posting.

Hey crazy, nice to see you join the dark side.

From the looks of that link that would be the basic game. It is enough to get started and play for a while. Though if go to a store and buy kingdom of sky it will get you both the original and one expansion, missing only desert of flames.

As far as the missing adventure packs I wouldnt worry about those.

BTW, if you do join try Najena server.

Not to knit-pick, but accurately put, CDs hold 650 or 700MB of data, (74 or 80 minutes of music), while DVDs hold 4.4 or 7.9 GB of data, (single or dual layer), so even assuming a single layer DVD, the capacity is substantially more than 4 times that of a CD since 4X the space on a 700 MB CD would come in somewhere under 3GB.

Are you freeport or qeynos side dirges?
How much is it to get the game with both expansions but not the 2 adventure packs? how bout with the adventure packs? just an estimate of how much you may have spent?
Dark, I'll prolly head over to Najena where dirges is. I won't be joining the game till about late June because I'm pretty busy for the next month and I don't wanna waste the free month with no play time, so we'll be able to group together or whatever heh :)

Yeah, I've canceled and haven't been on for awhile. With MC, BWl, and AQ cleared and the new instance gonna be the exact same boring stuff, I just didn't wanna play anymore.

I am also looking for something new to try as well, and from Bodhi's posts in the WoW forum, EQ2 sounds better than it was at launch. What are all the expansions, etc that would need to be purchased to play the game? KoS I guess is the new one, but were there any others, or are they downloadble patches? Thanks!

Another question, I'm currently stuck at home (no car atm), and want to start playing EQ2 anyways. I'm wondering if the station download of the KoS expansion includes the original eq2 like it does at a store? Any quick replies are appreciated :D hehe.

Rimailkall,

Pick up the EQ2 + KoS bundle. Its $29.99, should look like this. Gives you everything you need to start.

There is one more expansion Desert of Flame but all the content is 45+ so you can safely play the EQ2 +KOS bundle and not miss out on anything.

Crazy Crush - KoS digital download off Sony Store requires EQ2, so I am guessing you would have to buy both EQ2 and KoS of store which is 19.99 + 29.99. Just hold your horses and buy the bundle at a store and save yourself 20$.

A more complete Response for Rim

1st Expansion - Desert of Flame only becomes necessary when you reach lvl 40-45. Lots of 45-60 content there but not much else so you dont need to worry about it until you get there.

2nd Expansion - Kingdom of Sky comes bundled with EQ2 now. Mostly high end 55-70 content however it also contains Achiement Points (AP) which can be gained starting at lvl 20. AP help customize and pimp out your character so its nice to have KOS right off the hop.

Expansion 3 Echoes of Faydwer comes out in November. Adds new race and city.

Adventure Packs - mini expansions available for digital download that cost about 7.99 each. Not necessary, just a means for SoE to profit.

Advenure Pack 1 - The Bloodline Chronicles. Basically a 35+ instance/quest hub featuring vampires. For 7.99 you get a couple instances and access to some neat items that drop.

Adventure Pack 2 - Splitpaw Saga. Much more useful than Bloodline Chronicles. An instance hub/quest hub again. With a twist. Scaleable instances. If you go into an instance at lvl 20 the monster/ item drops are all lvl 20. If you go in at 45 its lvl 45. Same instance. Lots of solo content, including solo instances. lvl 20+ content.

Adventure Pack 3 - Fallen Dynasty comes out in June. More high end content. Instances, quests, fear, crafting etc.

I had to check EB, then Futureshop and finally found it in Bestbuy.

Easier to find DoF than Kos bundle.

Enjoy the long install + patching. Took me 3-4 hours. Though my case was excessive (long story)
