Hey EQ2 ppl, I am currently playing WoW and getting extremely bored with it. I have been looking at buying EQ2 and have been reading up on some forums. I just have a few newbie questions.
1. What in your opinion do you believe would be a good race/class to start out as. (in order to learn the game)
2. What are the best ways to make coin in the game?
3. How does PvP work in EQ2? (established by zones, or is it worldwide)
4. Are guilds necessary at the end game (as they are in WoW)?
5. Server suggestions?
I thank you all for your time to reply to my posts and i look forward to playing with you all in the near future :)

I can answer some of your questions.

1/ Race class don't matter much at all.It depends if you want to be a healer, fighter or whatever, all are needed in a group.

2/Not sure of "best way".Crafting and selling items to other players is good for me.

3/I don't do PvP

4/Being in a guild has it's advantages. However, there is no "end game".Afterall, this game is called "EVERQUEST".

5/No suggestions.Ask Tut. :)

I'm certainly not an expert, but here's my opinion/suggestions:

1) I concur with Longrifle. Race/class really does not matter. It all depends on what you like to play. I personally prefer Fury's since they ROCK ;). They have pretty decent offensive skills and you also have the ability to keep yourself healthy w/all of the healing spells they have.

2)The easiest and most effective way to make $$ in this game is to craft/tradeskill and then sell your items ingame on the market to other players.

3)PvP is limited to a particular server(s). As I don't play PvP I have no idea which ones they are or what the rules are that govern them.

4)I've not reached a level above 30 yet in this game, so I'm not sure if guilds are required for the high end game, however, based on what I've seen so far in EQ2 I would say that there is enough content so that they would not be required. Nice yes, but required no.

5)NAJENA ;) Awesome server and home of the most bodacious guild ever created: Foundation :)

1-Really doesnt matter. You should pick up what you really want to play. Every class can group and solo, they all just do it in some different ways.

2-Upgrade as soon as you can to some good bags and harvest and loot everything. Everything has a price for somebody, even if only for NPC vendors. It all add up very quickly. Tradeskilling is also a good way to make money by selling what you make to other players. Also, do every quest you can - lots give money or items you can sell or upgrade your gear with, which will save you money. Money is MUCH easier to make right now than it was at launch. I remember when I sold my first thing for 20 silver - OMG I was rich ! lol

3-Not sure i understand that question. It's mainly a Good vs. Evil thing ala WoW. In every zone they show you what is the max level gap.

4-It depends. If you are satisfied with only decent loot from instances, then I would say you don't really need a guild for them since there are picked up group forming for these every day. However, if you want the uberest items in the game, you most certainly will be advantaged by being in a guild that raids from time to time. There are some picked up raids, but it's harder to lead a picked up raid than having the same set core of players to raid on a regular basis together. It really only depends on how much high end content you want to see.

5-I'll let Tutan handle this point ;)

The game has a very good tutorial that walks you through the mechanics and gameplay. That is also a good place to try several different classes to see the different flavors.

mic check, one two...
When you create your character, you will be given a choice of servers. Consider Najena, as it has a bustling population, guilds of all levels, stable economy, and players in almost every zone.

When you get there, look me up. I can help you get started with upgrades, directions, advice, and some coin. Type /who all foundation to see who is on.

See you there!

Thank God that Alla has all that new money coming in... it'll take a bundle to hire the de-programmers needed to remove the effects of the cult of Tutan!!!

I just thought of another question lol. In your opinion, is there a class that is incredibly efficient at farming? In the first EQ I played a wizard and could ensnare about 4 enemies and nuke them, which was very successful farming (for my playing style). Im looking for a class similar to this ability and am not sure if EQII wizards can do this. any suggestions?

Quad-kiting is a thing of the past. Mana is used up much quicker, and when you enter combat, your run speed is severely reduced.

However, mana/power regen is lightning fast and there is a ton of mobs so you will be up and fighting in no time.

If you want to make quick kills, then a DPS class might be to your liking. Wizard/Warlock has the higest nukes. Conjurer/Necromancer have pets to keep the fight at a distance. Ranger/Assassin have the biggest melee attacks with medium armor. Swashbuckler/Brigand have fast attacks and debuffs.

The best farming group I saw was someone that was 3-boxing a healer, tank, and Wizard. The tank would get all the initial agro, the Wizard would cast AE nukes, and the healer would, well...heal. That trio make a circuit in a particular zone with frequent spawns making about 14 plat in 12 hours.

14 plat is a lot, unlike EQ1. Most players don't even make 1pp until their late 20's early 30's.

You realize, of course, that farmer was probably working for IGE or some such... ;)

That group sounds like their typical makeup. They ought to know the fastest way to farm monry.
