What Proffesion?Follow

Comming back to EQ2, I had a mystic around 23. But don't want to play him anymore when i relog. WHats the best class?
Necro or Conjurer i was thinking something with a pet.

Necro's and Conjurers are very useful, but there is an impending class nerf for them, much to the dismay of the Summoner community.

There really is no best class, as each can effectively solo, have utility, and be useful in a group. The important thing is to play what you like.

You'll be pleased to know that the character progression has changed. Now, when you start a new character, you will be your final class. So you can start as a level 1 Shadowknight, a level 1 Troubador, a level 1 Conjurer, etc.

What type of nerf is expected, pet agro reduced?
I just remember from long long ago in EQ1 Necros being awsome at the whole slow, dot, send in pet and then kyte?

I just don't want to get stuck playing a boring class like mystic. They kill'd too slow and couldnt get a group to save my life.

conj and necro got hit by a nerf bat and expected to get nerfed more. They were talking about nerfing the hell out of there DPS. its just wrong that there pet alone can out dmg a teir 1 DPS like a ranger or assassin.

also i hear that there DPS and spells wont be as powerful

Summoner Balance

Currently, Conjurers and Necromancers are a very powerful class that can deliver the most consistent damage in the shortest amount of time and can solo more powerful encounters than most other classes. One of the problems is that their single target damage can exceed that of Wizards in solo, group, and raid situations, even when hostile area effect damage is considered that can kill swarm and dumbfire pets.

The next test update decreases the effectiveness of certain pet abilities and buffs that were overpowered. These changes don't necessarily mean that Wizards are always supposed to outdamage Summoners. Summoners can have favorable situations in long fights without large area effects that can tip the scales in their favor above Wizards. It shouldn't be the case anymore that Summoners outdamage Wizards the majority of the time after these changes, and Summoners will still retain relatively powerful soloability even after these changes.

i see wizards getting nerfed next.... I see them soloing named ^^^ there own lvl with no problems. They are always outside of the Den doing that and spamming the channels selling there loot they get.

They must be talking about high levels, because I've been playing my 22 Dark Elf Necro a lot lately and I don't see any of this.

The tank pet puts out poor damage, I only use it to keep them off me. Fights take some time and I certainly can't solo ^^^ near my level. Raja the Lion (15 ^^ named) and his harem killed me 4 times last night before I decided to stop being stubborn. (No one on /OOC was willing to help. Filthy lesser races! Traitors to the Overlord!!!)

The mage pet I just got (and is still only App I :P ) speeds up fights but dies fast if it gets aggro. Only good in groups with a tank.

Lydiaele, these are items on the Test Server, so nothing on the live game yet. The recent Test Update #24 details a more grim picture.

I was replying to your quote from the dev to say I didn't feel like I was overpowered.

Also looked at the update notes and I don't see any summoner nerfs, just the nerfs to everyone's control spells to make Enchanters and Coercers look better in comparison.

Why is it wrong? A summoner should be powerful. Necro's are Masters of the Undead, and summon powerful creatures, and Conj's are masters of elements. They should out damage a guy with hand to hand weapons, any day.
