I have the day off work today and thought that I'd pick up some EQ2 time (kids are at school and the sitters and hubby's working :) ), but low and behold the servers are offline.
I assume they are doing some sort of maintenance, but does anyone know for how long? I may have missed the notice ingame, assuming there was one.

It's a given that whenever you stay home from work that EQ servers will be down.
Most likely they are just down for a few minutes. Hopefully they will be back up soon.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Keep your Test server updated for those times that the servers are down. I now have two pairs of toons, one set in Freeport and the other in Qeynos. They are all lvl 21 and a couple even have several levles of tradeskiling under their belts.
If I get early day play time the server is undoubtdly gonna go down. When that happens I just pop on over to the Test server. I had to laugh last night though. I came home from work a little earlier then I normally do and decided to log into Test to finish up a quest I had been working on that morning. No sooner then I get logged on and I get the "server coming down in 15 minutes message." Talk about timing.

I logged on shortly after you all replied and of course it was up. As OBD so kindly pointed out, it was indeed down for about an hour :) Needless to say, alls well that ends well...I played most of the day and dinged 20 - YAY !

i like when start playing and 9am cst hits and you played for 2 hours... not one warning that the servers are going down.
