I thought I'd have another try at EQ2 after about a year away after some people told me that most of the things I disliked had been changed.

Soo I start a new character, start remembering how it all works. Interesting that the new newbie island is changed significantly etc, etc. Eventually I get a quest that seems not to be working so I come - as I always do - to Allakhazam to look it up.

I was surprised to find that not only isn't it listed but that all the old class progression quests are still listed. Presumably these no longer exist since the class choice at creation change. Subsequently I find that none of the newer quests are here.

Now Allakhazam is only as strong as the information submitted to it. Is it not getting submissions? Are there no newbies any more so newbie quests don't get submitted? Or is the site just not getting updated very often? It does seem like it is a little moribund.

The EQ2 database really is weak.

I'm not sure of the reasons myself, just know they are lacking. There are just flat out chunks of the game not covered.

You could use Ogaming, that's what I've used for some of the stuff. There may be a better place, but I havent found it yet.

Hi Cobra - welcome back!

Unfortunately, the community (and the forums) is/are about all that is still viable here. The database has pretty much been ignored for the better part of a year now and although some of the regular posters have gone on periodic campaigns to get information into the system, it has always come to naught.

As for the game, it is stronger (and better) then ever! There are stil newbies, and lots of folks run lots of alts. If you ever roll up a char on Najena, look me up!

Hi Oldblue!

Good to see you're still enjoying it.

I'm afraid "welcome back" may be a bit premature. I've persevered trying to get past the "differentness" from other games I've played but there are still a lot of obstacles to enjoyment.

Perhaps I got stuck on a bad server (I missed the server choice screen) but the general chat channel was worse than I've seen in a long time and there was virtually nobody on Queens Colony. All kinds of nodes sitting unharvested when I remember there being fierce competition for them. And once I got to Qeynos it wasn't a whole lot different. I'm playing with chat closed now.

Some very nice new touches but the jury is still out.

Worrying that Allakhazam seems to be ignoring the game. I've always preferred this site because I didn't have to put up with the RMT ads and nonsense that most others had (and my heart hopes it stays like that while my head says Alla has been somewhat naive).

Maybe the "Community" can help me then Smiley: smile

This supercilious Erudite at Coldwind Point gave me an engraved vessel and a riddle which makes no sense at all to me. That is I can think of several answers but none that I can think how to action within the game context (eg "Light" could be an answer but who, what where do I interact with to put it in the vessel?). It did also occur to me that "Sky" would fit but why give a quest for an expansion to a level 10 who doesn't have it?

Any hints more than welcome.

That quest is "The Tie That Binds" and the reward is a spell that allows you to bind anywhere you like. I've done it several times for my own toons and walked a bunch of folks through it. Did you only want hints or a full spoiler? Either way, I'm your huckleberry!

There are 4 steps to the quest so for starters, think in terms of the 4 elements to complement those 4 steps. If you want more details, ask and I'll continue...

Ok elements makes sense. It occurred to me but I couldn't see a way to fit it in.

Classicaly Water, Earth, Air and Fire.

"All the physical matter around us is shaped and formed through it's influence. Clear or Dark, Weak or Strong, it is most essential to all living beings"

That sounds like Water. Fine as a riddle solving but absolutely no idea how to turn that into game activity for the quest. There is rather a lot of water about and it evidently doesn't mean the sea.

What do I do next?

Also as a matter of interest did you crack it yourself or did someone guide you?

Edit: I'll save you the effort. I googled it and see the solution. As a quest it would seem to rely on random chance that you would mouse over the tree while having the quest and then get into the aqueduct. That you'd examine every campfire in Antonica etc. I don't remember EQ2 quests being this obscure. I actually went there to do "Pecketts Patrol" which is thankfully still there and quite good for a newbie. That quest gives detailed instructions.

It really emphasises the original point. If quests are going to rely on random discoveries then sites like this are essential for disemination of the information.

I must add that the 'Tie that binds' quest is very unlike the other quests. Most quests are quite specific, but sometimes there is a quest like this one (take "Tarton's Wheel" for instance) that you either get very lucky with or just ask someone else.

The big majority of quests are straightforward though, like the Peckett's patrol quest.

No, I didn't crack it myself. I did it the first day it was available and so the directions I followed were kind of kluged together. I have since streamlined things, having done the quest about a dozen times now.

That first night it took us about an hour or two even with a spoiler. Now, it's about ten minutes to run someone through it.
