In case you missed the admin post on the front page, Alla has been or will be bought by a "mother" company that also owns other sites. By the way, this mother company also owns IGE, a notorious plat selling company.

Alla's description is that Alla and IGE, although owned by the same company, is in different divisions, not connected, and therefore it's ok.

Quite a heated line of threads developing there...

I would never have imagined that something I'd read on a gaming website would bring tears to my eyes Smiley: frown

This feels like the end of an era.

I only hope the sense of community we have here can survive this.

My Premium has quite a few months to go so I have time to see how things develop before making any decision.

Well, maybe it'll work out in the end, and maybe Allakhazam will still keep all the goldselling crap off this site.

And while I'm dreaming, I'd like to go from a geek-boy to a geek-boy that gets all the girls.

Congratulations on the sale, Allakhazam. I hope it was worth it.

I don't care if this post gets nuked, but this is complete and utter bullShit. The main reason we tell everyone, who always tout their fuCking websites in here saying how bad Alla's is for EQ2, that we stick around is the fact that Alla didn't sellout. He was the last bastion of hope against these coniving bastards. I gladly gave my money to keep this site free of the atrocities. And now...the mighty have fallen.

It is a sad day indeed.

One one hand I am morally disgusted by Alla's decision to join with a known platselling company, on the other hand I can understand the need to get more money to pay to make this site better. To tell you the truth Alla prolly really needed the money, I mean look at the eq2 site. ther then the community here this site is ****. There haven't been practicaly any new quests added other then the basic ones from the ezpansions. Our admin has 39 posts and hasn't done crap in here to make it better. And don't try to pull the "New quest info is our responsibility" shtick cause I have tried several times to submit info and none of them were ever updated. I might not have the best write ups better its better then the quest pages that basicaly say "We don't know **** about this quest."

So if this deal and new money means that our site will improve to where its actualy useful for information then I'm for it. i mean think about it, where do most of us go for our Quest info? Ogaming. Who owns Ogaming? The people who now own Alla, so its not gonna be a big change.

I'm not the one selling my morals out just by visiting the site, so if by Alla selling his out it means we get some quality info round here then I'm for it.

I understand his motives, but it's still hard to swallow.

I'm torn. I love the community on here. I'd hate to have to search for another decent board, since I've been useing Alla for years now.

I'll stick it out for a bit and see what happens. Not getting my hopes up however.

Goes to show you how important the EQ2 part of this site is: we didn't even get a Zam.com sticky.

Actually if Alla owns Ogaming, which has the best EQ2 database, why would he keep this EQ2 data base going?

We might even lose this forum Smiley: disappointed

I know it's bad form to pimp sites and all that, but everyone who's upset by this and looking for a decent EQ2 site should check out www.eq2daily.com.

They do a semi-weekly podcast about EQ2, have active forums, are putting together a pretty good EQ2 Wiki (which everyone is welcome to contribute to), and have expressed that they will NOT support plat sellers, banning them from their site. Plus, they're pretty funny, and do a good podcast. In addition to all that, they have a news aggregator that collects EQ2 news from all over the place and puts it all on one page.

I have a place in my heart for allakhazam that will never go away. Back when I played EQ1, this was the site to go to, and I really appreciated all the work they put into it. But it's obvious that they really don't care much about EQ2, and focus their energies on WoW. I barely visit this site anyomre, since there's nothing for me here. Now, with them joining with the plat sellers that help ruin the game, I don't see any point in coming back. I encourage anyone that's really outraged by this to check out EQ2 sites like Eq2Daily and Aggrome.com, 2 great eq2 sites with fun, active communities that are dedicated to EQ2, and opposed to people using real life $$$ to make their in game characters better, and their egos larger.

There are some great people on these forums.Though I don't post much, I definitely read many of the posts. If Allakhazam does crumble, I hope you can all find a communtity at one of these alternate sites.

I still say we give Allakhazam a chance and not all jump on the bandwagon immediately. If things go the way he says they will then we'll be much better off for it, if they don't then you can freak the hell out on him. Until them I'm still a loyal supporter of Allakhazam.

I won't leave straight away, but it does seem like a sell-out.

For some reason, my premium didn't renew and I haven't made the time to renew it myself. Going to wait a while now.

I went to Ogaming last night to see what they are saying about this. On the front page was a admin post about the merge and how eveything will be better. It also said, "for more info, check out this link."

That link was back to Allakhazam and the the 12+ page flame thread here.

Nothing like positive advertising...

I'll give them a month to update their EQ2 information and features to at least the level that OGaming has now. If that doesn't happen I'm going to check out the sites you mentioned.

I've listened to the eq2daily podcast and it's pretty good, though they tend to stick to the company line. Remaining positive while losing some objectivity.

We intend to import wholesale the ogaming database and significantly improve the searching of it and the other programming features. And both the ogaming staff and the allakhazam staff will work on the single database, giving us twice the staff to do the same function. Of all our sites, this merger will end up improving the EQ2 one the most.

This blog presents an interesting point of view -

http://www.brokentoys.org/2006/05/03/allakhazamcom-purchased-by-ige-holding-company/

Posters on the SoE boards are more concerned that they'll have to pay a Premium to Ogaming to keep getting the information.

I have budgetted in 4 people for the EQ2 site. Once the ogaming and Allakhazam communities are united I would hope that the forums get quite lively.

Alla has the best EQL site out there hands down. But as to EQ2, I never liked either Alla or Thotbott and think both of them are missing HUGE areas in their database. I used to submit a bunch of information to Alla's for DAOC, EQL and EQ2 but don't anymore. They stopped posting most of the info I sent them anyway.

*shrug*

Just another sellout and to a gold farmer none the less.
