New to EQ2Follow

#1 Apr 30 2006 at 12:29 PM Rating: Decent
I'm curious, I plan on getting EQ2 today, I'm not new to the MMO genre nor am I new to the EQ world. I am, however, new to EQ2 and am wondering, how much content will I have to update? EQ2 has been out almost 2 years, that's a lot of updates. I only have access to dial-up at the moment, and the thought of how much I'm going to have to download scares me. Any idea on how much I can look forward to? Also, any sites offer the updates at faster transfer rates? Any info would be great. Thanks.

You can only update from the game itself - no alternbate sites for update so there is no trick there. As far as what you will need to update, since each successive update is consoludated into the build, you will only need the current build and that download is automated. your forst update could be several hours on a dialup connection. You might want to either do it late at night or even while you're sleeping!

One thing that will save you time is loading the basic game from CD/DVD and only downloading the update itself, but if you intend to DL the whole program the point is moot! If you do intend to DL the entire deal expect 10+ hours with your connection.

Lol I always end up downloading at night. Any idea on how large the update will be? Also, just a thought, would purchasing the expansions eliminate my need to download the update?

Not sure if the retail version also comes with all recent patch updates, but most folks have been reporting a significant download when first installing.

One thing to reduce the amount of download is under the login screen under Download Options. You can uncheck "optional content", which is almost a 1G of NPC voice-overs.

That should save you some time, andmake those pesky NPC's a little quieter. You can always go back and select it for download when you are ready.

Deynos, when you start the game and create your character, you'll be given a choice of servers. Consider Najena, as we have a bustling population, stable economy, guilds of all levels, and folks in almost every zone.

When you get there, look me up. I can help you get started with some directions, advice, upgrades, and coin. Type /who all foundation to see who is on.

See you there!

By the way, Qeynos spelled backwards is Sony EQ. So Deynos spelled backward would be...Sonyed. Like, "I've been Sonyed!"...? :)

Yes. When you are at the character selection screen, you select any server you want. However, unlike WoW where you get several slots on each server, here you get 6 slots total.
