Another Just starting threadFollow

Hi guys, to begin im sorry for starting yet another just starting thread but Ive a couple of questions before I take the plunge. Before I start I have dabbled with EQ2 in the past but because of WoW I never fully immersed myself in the game, as my time in WoW draws to an end I've decided to move to EQ2.

Onto the questions. Are there any solo options in EQ2, what I mean is FFxi had beastmaster and that was it however in WoW any class could solo happily. Where does EQ2 stand in the solo department and which class/classes would benifit me most?

I could never find an AH in EQ2, is there one or something like it, has it got some thing to do with your home?

I noticed kingdom of sky has been released, is there any point getting it straight away or shall I just stick with the main game untill I've leveled my character up?

Finally what, if any difference is there between the 2 main city's. I shant be playing PvP so will they have any impact on my gameplay. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions guys sorry for the repetitive thread. :D

EQ's classes can all solo on their own, like WOW, some better than others, but there is definitely solo content in the game. In every zone there are two types of mobs: solo and heroics. Solos are just that, mobs you should be able to take on your own. Heroics are more like Elites from WoW. You WILL need a group to take them down, but they have better loot and xp.

As for classes, each one is unique, each one has its own strategy for soloing. Fighters tend to do real well but the fight may be slower. Conjurers are good since they have pets, but they die faster. Everything is a risk/value that the player needs to decide. Which is more important to you? Fighting nonstop but slowly or killing very fast with a higher risk? Play around with the different kinds of classes to see which one you like the most.

There isn't an AH area like in WoW, but we have brokers. Brokers are the Middle man, spead throught your city, that has the listing of everything thats being sold. They will take a percentage, but if you notice that so and so is selling something you want in their home, you can visit their house and get it without paying the percentage fee. When you want to sell something you need to go to your home, get a corkboard, and list what items you want for sale there. You dont have to stay in your house. You can drop them off in your vault and go out to play.

KOS is actually a good expansion to grab early on due to the acheivement levels being added in. With the expansion, once you hit 20 you can start gaining acheivement levels ( think tree talents) by7 discovering new zones, killine names, and finishing quests. I wouldnt worry about the Pillars of Flame until youre almost lvl 40.

Really no difference between the two cities. Each class has a sub class. If you go scout, you can be either an assasin or a ranger. It will depend on which city you choose. But you can also betray if you wish to change your subclass later on. Again, play around, see which place you like the most, and just have fun

Don't be sorry. Anyone who "grows up" and leaves WoW for the big leagues is welcome here and it's only natural that you would have a few basic questions!

In terms of solo play, the classes in EQ2 are now very well balanced and so any class can solo all the way to level cap if you choose to. All classes can solo, they just do it differently.

Healing classes, for example, dish out less damage so they make up the difference by self healing while they wait for the mob to expire of old age! DPS classes all wear lighter armor and so rely on rapid "slice and dice" to cut the target down as quickly as possible. Tanks, with their high mitigation and hate gathering skills, can stand toe to toe with the mob and wear it down in a battle of attrition.

Bottom line is play what you like... you will enjoy your character more and that connection leads to immersion!

I don't know what an "AH" is, or if we have them at all, could you clarify?

Kingdom of Sky is for lvl 60-70 characters and currently comes bundled with the basic game, but if you already have the original program, there is little point in purchasing the expansion until your main reachs lvl 60.

The difference between Qeynos and Freeport comes down to choice between good and bad. If you choose to play certain races, (dark elf, troll, ogre, or iksar for example), you will have to start off in Freeport. On the other hand, choose wood elf, high elf or froglok and you are locked into a Qeynos start.

Other than the atmosphere in the two cities, the only real impact is your "phone home" spell which returns you to your home village and even this is mitigated by a quest you can run in your teens that will reward you with a new spell that will let you reset your "call" to any location you choose.

Something I might be able to add is right now if you buy Kingdom of Sky it includes the original eq2. I still am not sure on rather or not you can get to 60 or 70, or just 50 with KOS without POF, but I would venture to guess it would let you go to 60. In any case that is the best value right now IMO. I think eq2 by itself is $20, so for $10 more you get Kingdom of Sky. The actual content of the expansion is useless to you until you hit about lvl 53ish, and evne then your only going to be soloing trash mobs (although there is some nice quests with those trash mobs). However after you hit 20 you can gain those AP points just by visiting certain areas of KOS, and those places are really easy to get to without dieing.

Even though you can probably go past 50 with Kingdom of Sky I would still recommend getting POF at about 40. Once you get to 48ish exp in the old world becomes nothing compared to DOF, and most of your groupage will happens in Sinking Sands and instances around it. Spiders in Sinking Sands are great exp, plentiful, and easy to get to. Very popular place to hunt. There is also alot of solo quests in POF that are quite fun. I have had alot more fun with DOF then I have with KOS and my main is 57 (I have actually yet to get a group in KOS...life of a tank I suppose.)

Anyways hope u like it, and remember you can try the trial of the isle for free.

ShapeChangerTrulsrohk, when you start the game and create your character, you'll be given a choice of servers. Consider Najena, as we have a bustling population, stable economy, guilds of all levels, and folks in almost every zone.

When you get there, look me up. I can help you get started with some directions, advice, upgrades, and coin. Type /who all foundation to see who is on.

See you there!
