Well, I finally quit WoW. Just got to the point where it just wasnt any fun anymore.
It's been near a year since I played EQ2. How is it now?

I remember playing when it first released and it felt like it was still in beta form, with constant downtimes in the morning hours, blatant bugs, etc.
It was fun, but just frusttrating to the point that I quit after awhile and went to WoW. Mind you WoW wasnt a walk in the park, but it felt more complete at the time. Not to mention I had some friends over there.

Also, how's the population? I know its nowhere as large as WoW, but I wouldnt be comeing back to a near empty world would I? I'm always afraid that when I go back to games their pop. will be to low to really get anything done at lower lvls.

I saw they revamped a good amount of stuff and it caught my interest. If this doesnt pan out though, I have to wait for Vangaurd I guess.

If you thought the game was fun before, you'll like it even better now. I think that's all you need to know. It's more group oriented than WoW and the community is commensurately more mature and helpful. However you can solo any class at any level, more so than before, even.

I get very little server lag and there are no ques for logging in ;) There is scheduled downtime in the AM one day a week. I've never had my server down when I wanted to play in the evening or on weekends.

My server always has lots of low level players. Either alts or new people - many people in your shoes coming on board or coming back - look at half the threads on this board :). EQ2 is actually growing, which is heretofore unheard of in a 1.5 year old MMO. IMHO EQ2 is the best MMO out there now, fantasy or otherwise. If one is tired of FFXI, WoW or EQ1, where else ya gonna go? :)

Not too long ago they merged most of the servers to increase populations, not because a lot of people left, but because with all the instances and zones it seemed like not many people were playing when they really were. (At least that's SOE's line, I tend to believe them.)

I'm in a new guild now, so I can't offer you an invite, but I'll put in a good word for you with my new masters if you decide to roll a toon on Nektulos. It's a very active and large casual/family type guild.

I haven't been up much in the early hours, but it seems like every time I am up they drop the servers for 1 hour reguardless of a patch or not, I would venture to say the morning downtime is still around.

They did change alot of content, but most of it was newbie content. All the tier 1 zones have been changed. I think the changes are nice they have some neat quests you can do which give you armor that can be used till about lvl 20ish.

Population wise it is fine. There is plenty of people to group with all the way to the top. Something I have noticed is there isn't as many people crafting lower tier items (IE tier 1 to tier 2) but after that you can start finding plenty of armor etc on broker. I think a big part of this is because there is really little point in investing much money into tier 1 or tier 2 stuff since u level so quickly at that level.

Also classes have been redone. I personally love the changes they made to the pet classes (necro and conjuror). First time I played the game I hated playing my conjuror. I had a hard time soloing anything because my pet was constantly loseing agression despite adept 3 pets and adept 3 buffs. Now I can't take aggression from a tank pet even if I try.

Even less so since it rarely takes them the full hour to update and reboot the system.

Yeah, that's not so bad. Especially after sitting through Tuesdays on WoW.

I dug up my old discs, and now am in the process of talking a couple of buddies into joining me here. Could be lengthy because one needs to update his PC to play.
