Hi all,
Am trying EQ2 and have been playing MMOs for appx 6+ years, FF to WOW, never EQ.
A few questions:
1) Anyone know and can give a link to a good starter overview. I here the buyable guides are outdated and of little use?

2) IS EQ2 a quest based game, much of what I liked for WOW was I could play most of game solo....much of what I disliked about FF was you always wasted time trying to group to play at all.

3) What class is most wanted for groups....i.e. I guess the answer in all games is a healer (Priest) any other classes much sought after for grouping?

4) Any good guides for races to class bests....Love a Shaman and Hunter in WOW but no race except Human seems to be listed as a good Shaman.

5) Love how WOW has a large UI developer community to make gaming easier. Does EQ2 and if so anybody suggest the best UI package out there to use?

6) Finally I always seem to like Magical characters but one that are not wimps at melee.....any suggestions? In WOW Shaman or Druid seems to fit the bill here how about EQ2.

Thanks all for responding.......

1) Try this for a free, playable demo of EQ2. It has a very nice tutorial. Remember, it's just the beginning.

2) There are literally thousands of quests to do, but that is not the only was to experience the game. You can group, solo, adventure, roleplay, PvP, and craft.

3) Not much change there, Healers are always popular. However, you could form a group of almost any class makeup to be effective. For hard, epic mobs, you'll want a healer.

4) There really is no best class or race. Different races will have different beginning stats that may lean to a particular class. Erudite has a higher starting INT (good for Mage), and Ogres have a higher starting STR (good for Fighters). However, eventually you will get gear that boosts your stats well beyond that, and will overshadow what slight beginning difference there was.

Races are pretty much equal, no-one has any particlar game-breaking ability. SOE worked hard to make all races equal. So take this opportunity to go outside the box. Troll Paladin, High Elf Necromancer, Halfling Monk, it's all possible!

Classes don't have a best, they just do it differently. Of the healers, Templars have large single-hit heals and wear plate armor, while Wardens have Heal over Time (HoT).

In the Scouts, a Ranger is a master with a bow, while an Assassin has the largest single melee attack.

For Mages, Wizards have the biggest nukes, while Conjurers control elemental minions to do their bidding.

Fighters also have different types, a Guardian has the best defense, while a Monk uses Avoidance to not get hit.

5) There are many UI's to choose from here. I and others use one called Thor, but you can pick from a large selection.

6) No change here, Mages wear tissue-paper-thin armor and can't take a beating. The Priest line would seem to fit your bill. Shaman's are considered Battle Priests, but the Templar wears plate armor. However, Wardens have many self and party buffs and can do fair damage. Everyone will have a particular preference to a class, especially one they play. :)

Keep in mind, Priests are not a DPS class, and will not do amazing damage. That is reserved for Scouts and especially Mages.

You can try several different classes to see which one you prefer. Good luck!

All classes can solo but the Priest classes are the worst soloers, so might not suit your play style.

Guardians are not the world's best soloers either but Berserkers, their offensive brothers, would probably be quite good and they can certainly take the hits. Smiley: smile

I don't agree with the statement about priest classes nto being able to solo as well. My fury can solo pretty well actually.

I think the idea is that Priests can solo, they just do it slower.

All classes can solo, they just do it in their own way. Fighter and Priests have low DPS so their fights will be longer. Scouts and Mages have higher DPS so their fights will go faster.

It also depends on many factors:
- Your gear upgrades
- Your spell upgrades
- Your level
- Mob level
- Type of mob
- Difference between those 2 levels
- Number of mobs in the group
- Player skill
- Who your grouped with and their skill and upgrades
- Spells refreshed

It's good to hear they're not done yet. We got a few minor upgrades to our nukes, and almost all our Achievements improve DPS, but we're still slower than molasses killing stuff.

We can solo because we're hard to kill, but it tends to take twice as long as most other classes. I've had a hard time getting some of the timed quests done, like the Peacock Club line or the Court of Truth Terrorgore one because it takes me too darn long to kill things.
