WoW to EQ2. Still no clue about servers...Follow

#1 Apr 10 2006 at 10:24 PM Rating: Decent
I'm sick of World of Warcraft. Sick. Of. It. Naturally, I started examining other MMOs and stumbled across this gem. Downloaded the demo, played through it twenty or thirty times, bought the game online, and now I'm just waiting for the delivery.

I was really just wondering, though, what the server climes are like? Are there any servers magnetized towards drama (not that you can really seperate drama from a game like this... f**king twelve-year-olds... xD), or servers particularly filled with farmers (not a problem I was really aware of EQ2 having), etc? Also, are there any servers that are particularly... how to say... "more awesome" than the rest? Eh? Maybe not even more awesome, but a server that has a generally friendlier feel to it? My experiences lead me to ask these questions before I really get into a game and then figure out that I hate my server (general chat in The Barrens *shudder*...)

Also, are there any EQ2-specific guild rosters or something floating out there in the WWW? I guess the WoW forums have spoiled me when it comes to OOG communication. :/

Many people will tell you X server is best etc. But truthfully all about about the same except the ones with notes besides the name. If you want player vs player then choose one of them, and I think there is 1 roleplayer server.

Welcome refugee!

There are currently 20 servers available in the following 6 "flavors":

13 X PvE standard ruleset (plain vanilla)
2 X PvE roleplaying preferred (just like it sounds)
1 X PvE station exchange (real world cash buys game goodies)
2 X PvP standard ruleset (plain vanilla)
1 X PvP roleplaying preferred (just like it sounds)
1 X PvP station exchange (real world cash buys game goodies)

Climate on the PVE servers tends to be pretty much the same. All are healthy and bustling with minor differences to be found in areas like wrinkles in the local economy and vitality of high end raiding guilds. On the whole, we tend to have a more mature community than WoW, with more or less drama depending on several variables. Climate on the PvP servers will be about what you would expect... more childish since the inmates are running the asylum! The station exchange servers are an experiment which attempts to eliminate pharming for outfits like E-Bay & IGE by giving RWL, (real world loot), a home of it's own. (Jury is still out.)

For further details, I would recommend the SOE boards. Found HERE are server specific forums there as well as a nice search function on EQ2Players.com that will let you search & visit all of the company spawned guild websites. You should be able to log in using your free trial account name and password. (BTW - you will also use the SOE site to register your key and upgrade your account once your purchase arrives.)

And finally, regarding "more awesome" servers... My guildmate, Tutanbriarpaw should be along any time now to fill you in on the nirvana that is Najena & the Foundation guild...

And once again, welcome and best of luck!

When you make a character and select a server, it will show the "load" on it. That is how many players are on that server at THAT time. Meaning, a US server will be busy during the US day, but will be quiter at night and seem empty to those in Europe.

So make your character during your normal play times to get a good indication of server loads during your expected play time.

There are several servers that have gradually become more popular, partly due to the fact they have a large population so more folks go there because there is a large population so more folks...you get the picture.

Najena, Nektolus, AB, are just a few that we normally hear about here, with all the good and bad news that goes with it.

My signature has a Server Index to give you a on-screen view of what each server is, although it's not a real-time population counter.

You should also know that a couple months ago, some servers were merged with others which caused a little stir, had people change servers and relocate, and look for new guilds.

When you go to pick a server, consider Najena. It has a bustling population, stable exconomy, guilds in all levels, and people in nearly every zone.

When you get there, look me up. I can help you get started with some upgrades, directions, and coin. My signature also has a link to our guild web site. Feel free to go there, register, and look around to see if Foundation is right for you. :)

I am shocked at you all. Normally by this time the newb would be inundated by subtle and not so subtle hints that Najena was the best server. Are you guys sleeping out there?
