How Would you have made EQ IIFollow

If you could have made EQ II what would you have made it like. More like the old game? Or more akin to what they did with EQ II?

To be quite honest, EQ2 was fine, long long long ago. The first error they made was to answer the call of soloers, in a mere attempt to not lose more ppl to WoW and to even try to grab some of WoW's players. That is when the game started to be much less enjoyable for me. Not that I dislike soloers, or that I think there shouldnt be solo content. But to me, the game was fine before that very day they made 80% of outdoors mobs soloable. Why did it ruin it for me ? Because you could tell from that very day that EQ2 would never be the same, and from LU to the next expansion to the next LU, they made the game dumber and dumber and dumber, to be as close as possible to their huge competitor, WoW. Every company has to adjust if they want to compete. SOE reversed everything just to try and make more profit. They claimed there wouldnt be any PVP. They HAD to implement it seeing as how it was popular on another game. There are changes that have to be made, but in honesty, who here thinks that the PvP system is original and NOT a copy of WoW's with a few changes ?

The game was easy at release. But it was still enjoyable. The pace of the game really changed over the course of a year and some months. I can level twice as fast as when the game came out with my alts, with the same amount of time. And Im not even grinding. I don't even want to think about how it would be if I would grind lol.

So how would I make EQ2 ? Much more like the game that came out on november 9, 2004, minus all the bugs and glitches :P...more of that and a lot less of WoW now. That is what made me quit the game.

But if I would have had something to say from the very start of the project ? More of EQ1, of course. There has been way too much EQ1 fans that have been really disappointed in EQ2. EQ2 has some cool features, I don't think its all crap, but it seems like for every nice thing they implement, they take 2 away. Of course its only my opinions, but I know are shared by, sadly, a lot of ppl (maybe not on these boards but hell...)

Still, have fun playing !

Being able to solo is a good thing, however I really thing the way its made soloing is pointless at higher levels unless your getting quest updates. I mean at lvl 56 a yellow solo mob gives so little exp its really not worth wasteing your time killing it, especialyl if your a low DPS class (IE tanks). I know DPS classes can cut through solo mbos pretty quick, but it problably takes my palaidn a good minute to 3 minutes to kill solo mobs and the exp you get is pitiful.

As far as dumbing it down goes I feel like they have done more to make it difficult then make it easier. When the game went live it was easy getting a newbie from FP to thundering steppes but now you have KOS no arrow solo bats and bears roaming the path which makes it harder. I also don't care much for the way they made the new solo mobs (well new as in several months I suppose). I mean the solo mbos are jammed so close togehter its crazy and it seems like all of them cast snare or poison etc making them more difficult then most mobs their level.

I also didn't appreciate them forcing people to attune gear. I get sick of paying huge amounts of gold/plat then vendors giving me about .01% of my investment back on the armor. I know people think its great, but eq1 has lasted 7 years and it doesn't force you to attune gear. Well ok eq1 recently has made some attuneable gear, but still there is plenty of gear that isn't attuneable. Also I don't like how restrictive the gear is. I used to love upgradeing my gear in eq1, but in eq2 it just is boreing since so much of it has the same stats. I mean I have played in DOF from lvl 45 to 56 and I have yet to see a piece of armor drop that has been a upgrade. I mean seriously it is all junk! Alot of it would be nice for say lvl 40 players, but of course they got required levels on it.

Far as making it more like eq1, no thanks. I used to love eq1 but then they started making the game nothing more then a hardcore raider game for nerds with no life. I mean the bs required just to keep up with other players is just insane. I mean 200+ AA points lvl 70 and full sets of raid gear less then 3 expansions old. The planar progression quest was absolute BS. I mean what was it like 15+ mobs you had to kill to gain access to plane of time? I never made it to the elementals because I never had a guild to take me there. AFter all you can't get a decent guild in eq1 unless you lvl 70 with 200 aa points and really anymore the expect you to have at least elemental access allready. And these raids in eq1 didn't just take 2 or 3 groups... no you had to have 72 people working by strict rules and doing things just so or else the 8 hours you spend working your way to (insert god here) was wasted. Once agian no thanks I don't want that BS!

I kinda talked abotu this in a thread a little while ago, and I'd have to agree with frong and thatrandemguy in that the game was better when it was released. They have pretty much taken away all the consequences for doing anything at all wrong, its made the game way to goddamn easy and it realy makes me angry, cause the difficulty was one of the things I loved about EQ2 at first.

Weren't you supposed to be on a bus going somewhere at this time? We stayed up until 2AM trying to get BT (and didn't) and you left because you had to "sleep". I'm calling BS.

The reason EQ2 is such a different game than EQ is because it was made by SOE, not Verant. This is actually the same reason EQ became what it is now. As soon as Verant let go of the reigns, SOE came in and eff'ed it up nicely. I believe Vanguard is going to be a much better take on what the original EQ would have looked like as a sequel.

That said, I still like playing EQ2 and I am fine with it as is. Yes, it could be tweaked here and there, but overall it is still enjoyable.

Let games be for fun and enjoyment and let the boring grind be work (which you get paid for as opposed to pay for).

For better or worse EQ2 is growing a year and a half after launch, reversing a shrinking trend, which is unheard of in the world of MMO's. I still think it's much better than WoW even with the borrowing of WoW ideas. Much deeper, more immersive, better community and yes, it's still more challenging.

EQ1 is just desperately trying to hold onto it's shrinking player base by "expanding" the end game. (Really now, more raids for higher level stuff isn't expanding, it's just continuing.) I logged onto my EQ1 account a couple weeks ago and the Plane of Time was deserted - on a Sunday afternoon.

I'm looking forward to trying out Vanguard, but I'm far from convinced it will be the second coming and greatest MMO of all time. The latest (April) issue of Computer Games Magazine said in so may words that they had "streamlined" and simplified many aspects of the game since the last time they looked at it. Including their much hyped (at least where I read) crafting system. Their dev team isn't saying anything on their boards any more, and due to NDA's there is no good detailed information on the game anywhere. (Please direct me somewhere if there is. :) )

Going abit off topic, but anybody else ever notice how muh extra detail there was in eq1 classic and eq1 expansions. I mean there is tons and tons of factions and how you stand with them depends on race, class, religion etc. Druids can walk up and pet animals in old world, you can discover interesting areas and the world just seems more lifelike. The the more recent expansions in eq1 they just slap together some boreing looking zones compose some mediocre soundtracks and just make every mob scowl at everybody. None of the zones are generally worth exploreing, and even if they are you need a full group just to step foot in them. They just line the ones with KOS mobs everywhere in a poorly laid out spawn. The only real lore is the crumby text files they right with stories most players can't relate to anyways. There is no hermits to meet in a nice open plains type area, no farmhouses to explore, etc etc.

Sorry to go off topic, but I personalyl just think that SOE ruined eq1. I imagine if Verent still ran the game it would be alot better then what it is. I know its every companies overall goal to make money, I think Verant cared more about the players then the money.

Just otu of curiousity anybody remember the round about time (expansion era wise) SOE gained total control of Eq1??

I'm in central time zone Mear, you should know that. So it was 3:51 am, 5 minutes before I left to meet the bus. I check Alla whenever I have a little free time, even at 4 a.m.

Oh and /hijack

Our bus was hit by some ******* who ran a red light, going 60. He hit the bus on the front left corner, luckily all 14 of us were in the back, only person hurt was the bus driver and the truck driver, both are gonna be ok.
