I played EQ1 for years and even EQOA while it was still popular, now I've had EQ2 since the first day it came out but have never had time to play...
I'm finally exploring the new content and its a little different from what I remember in EQ1 and EQOA, would someone fill me in on a little info.

1. what are the best subs for each main class.
2. what are good selections to make for an assassin like attributes etc.(im playing one now)
3. any other advice for general EQ2 gameplay.

thanks in advance to anyone who posts a helpful reply, if you know me from previous games and posts i was always helping and answering questions when i could... just be gone a looong time! ;)

You must have been helpful since you are rated sage and rate-ups don't usually grow on trees!

Anyway, SOE has go to great lengths to insure that in EQ2 there is no "best" class. The game is balanced to the point where every class is viable and no class is more or less likely to earn a spot in a group or raid.

So it really is a case of play which ever class you will most enjoy.

As an example, you are currently playing an assassin. This is a good choice as long as you don't mind living in Freeport. The flip side of the class is ranger, (which I play) and they both excel at DPS. The difference is that I work from a distance with a bow while you will usually stealth, slide in from behind and do the deed "up close and personal"! But assuming that we both play our toons well, neither one of us would be more or less likely to find a group.

As a scout, you will want to focus on agility. Your power pool, think EQ mana), is based on that stat and the larger your pool the more combat arts you can cast. Once you have that squared away and can spread out your stat bonuses, you can work on strength. Boosting strength will increase the amount of damage your combat arts do.

For additional general advice I would say peruse the main and class boards here at Alla's as often as you can. There is a wealth of good information available from all the regulars who post here.

And don't hesitate to ask questions any time you have them. There are a bunch of folks here abouts who will be happy to respond to any specific questions you might have.

Welcome to EQ2 and I hope you enjoy it here. I think it's a great game and that it's getting better all the time!

Thanks for the heads-up, sounds like aside from the class balancing I can, basically, treat 2 as i did 1 and EQOA so I feel a little more confident about venturing out and making decisions. I assume healers are still ever-so popular for groups? LOL and melees are a dime-a-dozen.
I have noticed from when the game first release to date that there has been a lot of content added and improved on which really is what made me decide to start playing again because at least here, it seems, SOE actually listens to their players and makes changes for the better.
Thanks again for beintg so helpful and friendly!!! ;)

LOL, I think the Sage title came from my responses being so long and wordy that people didnt know what to do so they just felt bad that I took so much time replying. ;)
I don't know why there are only 80 but oh well!

Of the healers, Templars have the best, single cast heals of any, plus they get to wear plate armor. Down side is they have terrible DPS.

Of Mages, Wizards have the best DPS, with a level 50 spell that does 4K damage. Yea, that's crazy talk.

Of Fighters, Guardians have the highest defense, but also have very low DPS.

Within each class there are many different flavors. Even though each class is viable to solo or group, I prefer to play something with versatility. Frankly, I would get bored if I could do only one thing really, really good.

as for assassin tips... make a Brigand.. they lack the assassins Majordamage backstab but They do have a punch to pack in any case..
Some people may refer to Brigands as Cheap Chainstunners.. you know youll like it >) and according to an old review of the Rogueclasses Brigands does everything Swashbucklers do at an increased efficiency.. except Swashies have a "Mezz" at their disposal.. thay lack all other stuns that Brigands get tho and are considered Weak.

Back to assassins.. They arent halfbad and if you the Stats are depending on what you will be good at.. your major stats are STR and AGI.. a Mass STR stat will increase the Damage Dealt.. And its not just a little if you know what yer doing... AGI is for hitting opponents more often.. My main Brigand on Befallen Has 140ish AGI and thats enough to hit Yellowcon mobs.. you may hit Oranges on occasion but you really dont go and pounce oranges all day do ya? =P.. and fully buffed. like 350 STR.. and i do 500ish more minimum Damage than an AGI specced assassin when examining the Adept1 version of Assassinate skill... (6k-9k damage) (if i could use it i can do 10k+ with it)...
as for the other classes ..

Mage: No Mageclass is exceptional or anything.. they just specialize in different areas of DPS.. Warlocks are basically Direct Damage Nuking and have a few Meleeprocbuffs.. Wizards are more of a DoTing Nuker with a hardhitting one at lvl 50 (or when they get it) Illusionists are in a Mess right now and are a shadow of what they should be.. Coercers are as well..
i havent played any of the Summoner classes but theyre basically the same to me.. i havent noticed any difference in their play in my days of playing with em.

Priest: Templars do have high heals.. but they lack DPS and that makes them suck.. Inquisitors are Templars with a bit more DPS and are kings of Debuffing.
Furies and wardens are pretty muc the same. Both focusing on HoTs .. furies heal less and DPS more than wardens and vice verca.
Defilers and Mystics.. Defilers are the more offensive class and Mystics are the better Warders.. (Freeport classes are always the more offensive one)(and i love it!)

Fighters:
Paladins Lack DPS but heals pretty well but lacks the HP to become a real tank other than a mere Backup.. Shadowknights Lack heals but their DPS is Alot better than Paladins.. (they do have lifetaps tho).
Guardians are the Best Defensive Tanks in game.. They dont have to Lack DPS just since theyre tanks.. if you spec them with STR gears and thingies they can do a bit of damage.. but wont hold agro as long if grouped.. STR gears are great for Soloing tho.
Berserkers are the Opposite of the Guardian.. they Buff Groups Melee prowess like kings (and guards buff Defence) and they as well can take a punch or two. but in raids and endgame.. guardians take the Tanking awards..
Monks are just ****.. some people claim them to be good tanks.. but are merely avoiding damage than taking it like men.. they cant do much DPS and are almost only in the way.. good soloers tho and can buff some Melee skills (not overtaking Zerkers) and they have a little heal to their side.. a miniature Zerk/paladin with a Leatherfetish... Same goes for Bruisers.. but they wont avoid damage as much as Monks but Pack a WHOLE lot more DPS.. which is better in my book than enduring hits for a longer time..

Scouts: Rangers.. Overrated crap they are... on PvE servers they claim to be the "best" and say that Brigands (all powerful in me book =D) are mere Side DPS and annoyers.. HELL! i outDPS Wizards FCS >) .. their Main DPS comes from their Bow.. and TO ALL FREEPORTIANS ON PvP SERVERS!! DONT BE AFRAID OF THEM! Just run up close and they lose 80% of their DPS and become useless and easy to kill.. ive beaten alot of higherlevel rangers in PvP like that.. Assassins: Mad highdamage Backstabs.. at 15minute recharge.. worth it as DPS?... not my idea of DPS.. Lacking of Stuns and other neato utils..
Swashbucklers.. a Basic DPS class.. lots of Backstabs and melee selfbuffs.. lacking of damaging and number of stuns.
Brigands. (Finally) =), May as wel be called slow as most of their skills have a 1min cooldown.. But with all new AA Pirate line.. it can be alot faster..(25% time cut) they got Stuns stuns and stuns! Mad Defence Debuffs (used in succession and with Double up Skill.... 14k of mitigation debuffs sound bad to you?)
lots of backstabs. ALL damaging skills Deuffs Something of the enemies skills.. may it be Stats/attackspeed/skill avoidance/defence.. Mitigation.. True Kings of DPS in another words..
Troubadors are Buffing kings.. a solid group needs one.. they dont do much DPS but their Buffs really does Help.. ALOT..
As for Dirges.. you can live without em.. Lousy stat debuffs.. (WIS and AGI Debuffs mostly) and a few offensive songs.. and tends to gain agro without much ado from the user...

well i hope it helps a bit..
