So... you can buy houses in the game? If so, whats the point of having one?

You only rent a house. There is a limited number of addresses that are available in each zone, but an unlimited number of people that can dwell in that address.

Meaning, each house is an instanced zone, and once you begin renting the house, you gain access to your own version of it. Then you can begin placing furniture, books, quest items, pets, etc.

When you go to access a house at an address, you will be presented with a long list of players that have taken up residence there.

To clarify just a pinch, you do BUY the house, but you must pay weekly rent to gain access to it. Beginning Inn rooms are 5 silver a week, all the way up to 3 bedroom 2-story mansions that are 1-2pp plus status to purchase.

If you get tired of your small, 1-room place at the Inn, you can give it up and move into a much bigger and better place.

My guild house is at 9 Lucie Street under the name of Squibb. Some of our members moved out of their own Inn rooms and have taken up residence there. Check it out if you like.

Tmbpanthers said "what's the point?"

There are several points but in the end it is your descion.

The first and most important is that you can set up your bulletein board and start selling those rare items you harvested, the stacks of bear meat you collected, or that really fine weapon you looted. You can sell to the NPCs but many items can be sold for more through your room and the broker.

The second is that it is part of one of your first quests upon arriving in your new homeland. You will get XP and a couple of rewards.

Third it's a great place to sto your tropheys that you get in the game like the Dwarven Workboots, the Lore and Legend trophy weapons, or just simple quest rewards like the painting easel, the bucket, table, etc. These items will have something that is called rent status. The rent status accumulate from your belongings and help to reduce your weekly rent

Fourth, some of us just get a kick out of designing our virtual living quarters.

I know that no one asked but here are just a few links to look at some furniture and decorating ideas.
